Just got back from a road trip to visit my mother-in-law for 3 days, 2150 miles and 2 Petes and a cob. Smoked 8 bowls a day & no problems. I think (only me) if you can't smoke any pipe more than 6 times a day I won't own it

At one point I had 3 Moonshines, down to one now, a Devil Dog. I would have to agree, they are quite stout and ready for rough days. The only issue I've ever had was, as you alluded to, gotta have a cool tobacco, pipes that short don't do much to cool the smoke. Yeah, I just finished a bowl of ODF Kentucky Burley in another pipe that has the longest stem of any I own. I tried the ODF in the Devil Anse once, found out I may not be as much man as I thought I was. And therein lies my problem, 60% of all the bowls I smoke are ODF.

I like heavy canvas coats and leather boots that can be re-soled. I need stuff that can handle me.

I'm putting my Icarus to the test right now, back to back bowls of Three Friars, which I just discovered today, why haven't I been smoking this stuff for years?

A small, rusticated bent H.I.S pipe my grandmother bought me as a gift. It stays in my pocket and I often smoke it at work on my way to the next customer. So multiple smokes a day and nary a pipe cleaner or cleaning. I put it through the paces. On another note, refrigerant oil can keep a stem nice and shiny.

This little pot I made. I smoke bowl after bowl in it. I think I did three in a row last night. Never gets hot, never complains. Smokes any family of blend well. Don and Instymp have pots I made that are similar. Pots might be my favorite. I also have a smaller rusticated one I made that smokes just as well - for a good 15 minute smoke.

A big Nording freehand as they are almost indestructible. Agreed, and if the two I have are any indication, these pipes are surprisingly light and clenchable for their size.

My Peterson 999 takes a good beating. I smoke it more than any other pipe I have and is the first one off the rack when I get home. It has handled many back to back smokes and even though it gurgles like hell it is my favorite production pipe.

Brief update here, I mentioned this in the WAYS thread already, but on IPSD I found an estate Al Pascia Curvy 02 on SP for a steal, considering the 15% off the already low estate price. I think it will fill this roadtrip workhorse slot nicely. Chamber is good sized, I get an hour out of it easy, the walls are thick and stout, can easily handle being in a pocket or the console without feeling guilty, and the reverse calabash keeps it cool and dry through and through. I can't say I'd rush out and buy another full price with VAT, but considering the deal I got on this thing, I'm enjoying it.

It was too small for him to hold! 100 bucks shipped and only smoked once. I would have never paid retail for it.
