Most of the UK and Yerup know how to build a house. That is a lovely place. The interior plumbing and electrical are where the trouble begins. I have a spare can if Lucas Replacement Smoke.

Clayton NM is looking better by the day. A lot of the places mentioned have little to no access to the news of the world.

Africa. In a heart beat. Botswana, Nairobi, somewhere in there. Spent a month there once trying to found a horseback safari company in the Kalahari desert. Went up the Okavanga...I loved it. Was deeply at home. But its just a dream anymore. By chance, do you know if its true that almost all of the diamond traders there carry guns? I keep getting conflicting reports on this from rock hounds. I dont know. I was mostly in and Botswana, in the Kalahari, and never had dealings with diamind traders. I talked to a Boer in SA that had a Glock on his hip. That surprised me. Personal carry was more common than I would have expected in SA. Though, by our standards, still heavily regulated. In Botswana, I saw only long guns. Got in a bit of a touchy situation up on the Okavanga Delta with a couple of locals in a village in the middle of no-where. They were trying to strongarm the old white landowner I was with, didnt know I was around. Things were getting vocally violent until I quietly stepped out of the bush, big, bearded and with a rifle in my fists. I never said a word, but everybody suddenly wanted to get along. 😁😳🙂 We had gone up there to sort out a reported lion problem in the camp. No lions, only stupid huuumans.

When I was first assigned to Fort Lewis, and we got off the plane in Seattle and caught a shuttle bus down to Tacoma, i looked out the windows of the bus, and to me, I felt like I was home. Washington is a beautiful place to live, some of the best hiking I have ever seen. Sadly, the cost of living was incredibly high, so we came to Arkansas, but if money were no issue, I would still be in the Northwest. Yep, I'm with you, fadingdaylight...lived in Seattle back in the late 80's and absolutely loved it...this was before housing became so insanely expensive...food was just amazing...all the cultures in one city and the landscaping was just awe inspiring. Loved getting up in the morning and seeing Mt. Rainier mountain top....and those crazy roads at 45° angles...tough if you have a stick shift car and you are at a stop light.

Too many Kalifornicators buying up everything. Clayton doesn't have dust storms and it's minutes from several mountain ranges. And it is cheap!

Clayton NM is looking better by the day. A lot of the places mentioned have little to no access to the news of the world. Clayton is a nice town. Plenty of history. Enough elevation that it is high desert. People are more conservative than in many other parts of NM. The Texas influence is strong. It would be worth exploring.

The offer of free land is attractive, but we can well afford a big home in town too. And they have WATER! And the oldest movie theater in the country.

There are many kinds of beauty, and all of them beautiful. I guess I just find the draw of the primitive, wild and dangerous places more attractive. This one is from my time in South Africa...

Rhino's...most noble beast that it is...I've heard that they are drawn to fire and stomp it out when they can...don't know if that is true...but they can use a number of them in Calif. during the fire season and maybe catch some of those evil doers that start fires.

I already made this move, 10 years ago. Born and raised in Illinois and always knew I wanted to get out of the cornfields someday. After traveling around for work, I eventually made it to the Northwest coast and was immediately fascinated. We live outside of a small town on the west shore of Puget Sound now, and I am in my happy place. The variety of climate, geography, biodiversity... the proximity of real wilderness... I couldn't imagine leaving. One thing I do agree with is the history in Europe. The native cultures of the Americas have as old and fascinating of a history, but a lot less in the way of old monuments. What's the joke about being able to tell an American tourist from a European one? The American thinks 100 years is old, the European thinks 100 miles is far.

I hear those castles are drafty. I am quite happy here in the California Sierras. It's as beautiful as anywhere in the world. A close second might be the Greek islands.

I was born in Germany, I'd love to go back for a while.
The PNW has really been calling to me lately.

I love where I live (I can hardly see my closest neighbor in back during summer). I just wish there were some hills. My only other choice would be the White Mountains in NH.

I was born there, grew up there, and headed west as soon as life presented an opportunity. Don't get me wrong, I miss Ocean City/Fenwick Island, and the Appalachian Mountains, but I don't think I would ever go back.

I'm on the Eastern shore, which might as well be nowhere, as far as I'm concerned.

Also, the county is a Second Amendment Sanctuary. Whatever that means, LOL! There is not much of a problem here with that. Some people have tried to use the issue to whip up political support and divide voters. It is an old trick.

Compared to the NYC metro area, everyday down here is 3 days long. Much less stress, much less expensive. People are mostly all salt of the earth types. It's just a good place to live.

Okay. Great ideas and thoughts. Bu lets be real. We would all want to live in the back room of Smoking Pipes or In Jeremy Reeves basement !
Where would I want to be? That is really a tough question for me. I’m kind of a vagabond. So many places I would like to visit and spend some time. (Weeks, Months?) who knows. But set roots? Ireland, I would love to spend time there, or at least until Paddy throws me out😆 Denmark, because it has such ties to the hobby. Many parts or Eastern and Western Europe . Ecuador, constant climate. Beautiful country.
I’m not a big fan of humid areas, but short stays at the right time of the year work. Hence why I have a home in AZ and not Florida. LOL
When I grow up, I will figure out where I want to settle down.

Haven’t been on here much, took me over a year of lurking before registering. To many good members left due way to much BS! Ron, you and I seem to have the same attitude in life, main reason I decided to respond to your post.
I live in the Dakota’s, have many acres, lived here most of my life after serving my Country. I wouldn’t trade my life style for a BILLION dollars. I’m a private person, I much prefer animals over mankind. Here, all the fresh air one could ask for, the views are breathtaking. Only people I let live freely on my land is a local tribe, they belong here, we watch closely over each other.
“ God Bless ALL of you in these difficult times “

I posted that on my Facebook page...so far my former pastor volunteered to be my butler, cousins offered to be gardeners, maids, and house staff. When you look at the 2 million dollar properties in Arizona, and compare to that for 1.6 Million, it isn't even close as to the bang for the buck here....It would be nice to be in a place to where I could say "I will take that!" and spend 6 hot months of desert life there.
