What are your thoughts? Lately a lot of people take adversity to the trend of sequels to popular older movies; this trailer doesn't look too bad, IMO:

Didn't know there was going to be a sequel. Have to check it out.

Heard Tom Cruise wouldn't be playing the part of Jack Reacher in future movies - AND Lee Child is turning the Jack Reacher series over to his brother (Andrew Grant).

They are looking for the right actor for a reboot. TC bought the rights, so I don't know if they had to buy them back or not. I think they have to wait for a given time before a remake too. The legalities are ridiculous.

I didn't know there'd be a sequel either...However, looking at the trailer, it looks like they're just trying to remake the original.

It looks just as cheesy and Hollywooded-up as the original. In other words, it looks like a perfect sequel.
I'll watch it. I'll probably make a lot of fun of it and explain to my poor family all the ways it makes a mockery of naval aviation... but I'll probably watch it several times, and enjoy it thoroughly. 😁

Always felt very uncomfortable watching both Top Gun and 300 (not that there's anything wrong with that).

Any fights between spacecraft are going to be so different from anything we've seen on earth that we can't even imagine it right now. Both lasers and ballistic weapons will have unlimited range for one thing. Speeds are high, but maneuvering requires a ton of energy. And even with enough energy you have the g forces, so the fighter scenarios are probably not going to happen. Stationary stations and satellites in fixed orbits vs exploding satellites such as the Chinese have up there now are the future. Isn't it wonderful?

Yep. Or giant space lasers. Or peace. Probably not.

Other than that one shot at the very end of the trailer, I haven't seen or heard anything about space combat. That's pretty hilarious though; why would you need manned vehicles engaging in combat in space? Why would anyone engage in combat in space, other than maybe ICBM interdiction? I can't imagine a way for that part to be anything but incredibly over-the-top, a nod to the inherent cheesiness of Top Gun. Which I guess might make it good fun. 😁

We will always have space operas, but I doubt that we will ever have manned combat vehicles in space.

The most realistic space fights (with fighter-class spaceships) was in Babylon 5.

Haha I guess I shouldn't over-analyze... sure don't want to ruin Star Wars for myself!
