Hello Everyone, greetings from Boston, Massachusetts. I thought I would pop in to introduce myself to the club and tell you all how much I enjoyed my first ever smoke. Pipe smoking has always intrigued me, something I remember my grandfather doing in his den at Christmastime. Smelling my pipe tonight brought me back to late evenings as a kid sneaking into his den to hang out while he smoked his pipe. Pure nostalgia. Fun fact, my profile picture is actually a photo of my great grandfather at our family's lake property in the Catskill mountains, circa 1922. In a way I felt connected to him this evening, despite both my grandfather and his father being gone for many, many years. Here's a photo of what I had the pleasure of enjoying this evening. Savinelli 626 Alligator with some nice Solani Gold. Anyone here try either of these before? I found I quite enjoyed them, even with my initial struggles as a novice. Without knowing much about tobacco, hopefully, the Solani Gold is a decent starter blend for breaking in my pipe.

Yo Wal - welcome. You are in a great town for pipes, as well as lots of cultural resources. I met my wife there when we were both in school, and found the restaurants even then just wonderful. I got my first pipes and tobaccos at Peretti's and Leavitt & Peirce, which was a great way to start before the days of Internet forums and pipe clubs.

Thank you everyone for the warm welcome, it's good to connect with a community right from the start. In my short time here so far I have grown quite fond of the friendly people here and prospects of stimulating conversations to be had. I'm looking forward to many interesting discussions, and I'm especially looking forward to learning from some of the greybeards on how to best immerse myself in this fulfilling lifestyle. just ol ed - It was great chatting late last night, hope to pick up that convo again soon. I guess the blend I started with had a nice kick, because I rarely make it that late into the night. lestrout - great to meet you, Boston is a great town. Have been here 8 years now (originally from CT). I haven't made it down to Peretti's yet, but it's on my list. The restaurants are great, I actually used to live in the North End and had 6 years of italian dinners almost every night. Never got sick of it! puff - cool to meet someone with the same pipe. I'm glad to hear it has lasted you for years, I'm hoping to have this one for a lifetime (it is my first after all). Personally, I really like the alligator style. I was incredibly torn between a smooth or rusticated for my first pipe, and I feel like this texture is the best of both worlds. To all the others, great to make your acquaintances. Excited to be connected to pipe smokers around the world, and I'm looking forward to learning more about this hobby and all of you. I am the first of my friend group to plunge into the world of pipe, so it is nice to have common friends here. Happy Smokes

I am not sure if I have tried Solani Gold or not, but Solani puts out some great blends. You are far ahead of the curve for most pipe smokers that fry their tongues on drugstore aromatics.
That pic of your grandpa is pretty cool, that generation knew a thing or two about simple pleasures, delivering rich rewards.

Hi Waldron, and welcome from Atlantic Canada! I used to own a Savinelli Brown Alligator, a 320 KS. The finish is just so cool! As for the Solani English Mixture, you chose very well.

Hey, welcome. I'm from your area, but transplanted to the hinterlands. Born in Lynn, lived in NH, Foxboro, Beverly. Check out Peretti's. A road trip to Ernie Q. at Watch City is worthwhile.
