I know exactly where you are coming from. For me it is a joy to watch my guys take such pleasure in their food. Feeding them well is my job!

Marbles is out exploring the yard on the east side, about 1/4 acre.
He kept his dinner down. Boiled pork trimmings, baked chicken breast and a little kibble. He had been throwing up every night with the food the Shelter sent me home with.
Looks like he is calming down and settling in.

It seems "Marbles" has frightened some of my neighbors. There are people here who believe in all manner of demons, spirits, ghosts, etc. Marbles eyes are disturbing to them. So, I might have to look for a pair of doggy dark glasses he can wear. If so, I might try to train him to shake his head back and forth on command like Stevie Wonder.

Maybe some artificial drool and a pair of fake tusks. Or two eye patches and a pirate hat. They make goggles for dogs. My Boston Terrier had a pair, plus a Harley cap.

FYI...for dog lovers...found out today that the "baby" had a protein allergy (don't know if it is chicken or meat) but after an expensive evaluation what I thought could have been staph was in fact not staph or a yeast infection but was a protein allergy, so she goes on a special diet which uses a hydrolyzed protein based diet.
I'm no vet but if you have had a problem that looks like a staph infection take your pup and ask about the possibility of a food allergy....just thought I'd mention it!

Good advice, that ^^^^^^^^^^^. Yay, for Marbles...man of distinction even if he can't see...he knows that he has finally found a good companion who will not let him down in his old age.

RE special foods... My Jack had a recurring ear problem. Almost two years and many $ later I took a flyer and put him on a non-grain diet. Problem cleared up right away. The food came from Dr Tim’s line, available with home delivery at chewy.com. Yes, it’s expensive but well worth it IMO. Eli is also on one of their foods designed for medium- and large-size sporting dog puppies and is thriving on it. Dr Tim’s has an extensive line of specialty and remedial foods. At a certain purchase level the 2-day delivery is free to your home. (I have no relationship with that company, except that they take my money!)

One gripe about Chewy. I ordered a fairly large quantity of chew-toys for my puppy, Eli. About half of them were made in China. I objected, and asked they identify ciountry-of-origin of their products. They refunded my money on the Chinese stuff but stonewalled me on IDing items. If you buy accessories or toys from them, I recommend you ask them COO before completing the sale. Just my 2¢.

Their chosen delivery agent- Fed Ex contractors are a problem.

They try to give my dogs cookies and I won't let them. I don't let 'strangers' give food to my dogs.

You are absolutely right about strangers giving your doggies food or treats... absolutely no.

They have two wolves in the house. Everyone feeds them scraps from the table. Sort of an exercise in socialization. They sit on the floor next to the people while we are eating. They are so tall their heads are above the table. They are as dinner guests. I fed them meat scraps which they took so delicately from my fingers. I was impressed by their social ability and grace.

Any animal can be domesticated like that, from an elephant down to a spider. You just have to remember their history, ie were they wild most of their life or raised from a cub, and what they are. Making your tabbycat mad so he claws you is not the same clawing you'll get from your pet tiger. Tiger isn't more mad, just more clawie.

"Any animal can be domesticated like that, from an elephant down to a spider."
Maybe. Sceptical about how many generations it takes, though.

I don't blame you for being sceptical. I would be too, except I've done it. From a bear down to a spider.
Spiders taught me the most.

My lil girl is just like that... very delicate about taking food from my fingers...don't think I'd try that with a "pitty"...might forget her manners and leave me like the cartoon above.

Anyone feed their dog a raw food diet? It's done wonders for our dog. Also, simnettpratt, gotta love Gary Larson cartons.

Thanks for the reference. I went over and read it. Apparently it’s frozen, but I still have no idea of its consistency.

Thanks for the reference. I went over and read it. Apparently it’s frozen, but I still have no idea of its consistency. It looks like minced beef. I defrost a tub and it does me 3 days in the fridge. From what I can tell it's very close to 100% raw meat without the other stuff to bulk it out etc.

Pure wolves? DNA is strong medicine. Two strains of Wolves- Timber and Red. They have no dog characteristics. Their humans are careful with them. Litter mates- neutered and spayed.

I have Marbles on the 79 cent per pound boiled chicken quarters with a little special kibble. Used to be 59 cents but the price increased over time. He is liking that and it stays down. I have lived with other dogs who were like that. They have to eat boiled chicken or pork. The good news is I get the bones and scrap for stock. All winter a stock pot is boiling keeping the kitchen warm and soup available. A good symbiosis of species.
