Who enjoys making their own blend? Willing to share a recipe? Any guidance or advice creating a blend?
I am at a point in my pipe smoking career I am now interested in creating my own blend. But I am unsure how to start.

I have my own blend. Its super easy to make up.
I tried making several before I hit on this one. I discovered that for myself, it worked best not to get too exhotic. I mix something up, try it for a bit, and try to imagine while smoking it what might be missing. Or what needed tempering.
My "OldDad" is what I finally hit on.
4oz - Carter Hall 4oz - SWR Regular 4oz - Lane BCA 1oz - Dark Fired Kentucky
For my taste, the first 2 were too bland or boring by themselves for extended smoking. The Lane was too areomatic and tasteless alone, but added a pleasant note to the mix. The DFK was the magic ingredient that just tied everything together.
Its all a matter of personal taste, but thats how I came up with the perfect blend for me.

For the sake of expediency, I'll repost two homemade concoctions that turned out to be surprisingly good:
"PLEASAANT MOMENTS"
10 oz: Lane Ltd "HGL" (HGL is really just Captain Black-original, with some Latakia) 2 oz: Maduro Cigar-Leaf 2 oz: Stokkebye's Cube-Cut Burley #41 2 oz match-"Elizabethan" new name:(match-"Victoria")
Mix and age for a month. Smooth, easy smoking, and flavorful, but not strong. The "HGL" is a crossover English-aromatic, and the small addition of Latakia adds some piney notes. The cigar-leaf brings a creamy mouth feel, some slightly bitter, coffee/chocolate notes, and increases smoke volume. The added Burley, some toasted-oatmeal. The Virginias, Cavendish, and Perique some peppery sweetness. The aroma is wonderful. (All the bulk, tobacco components for making this mixture are easy to find and commercially available from year to year). Aromatic, creamy-Vanilla/coffee/chocolate/toasty oatmeal....(No campfire, creosote, or stench of burnt leather, here).
******************************************************************
"BENEDICTION"
8 oz Wilke's "HIGH HAT" (unique and classic English that's been around since 1887) 8 oz Peter Stokkebye's "LUXURY BULLSEYE FLAKE"
Rub out the "LB Flake" and mix it with the "High Hat". A true delight, and the unique aroma of 'High Hat' shines through. Mild and mellow, easy smoking, treat. Let it age for a month. Great fragrance.
*********************************************************
Posted for your pleasure, and for sharing with kindred spirits.

Here's my latest blend ...
Burley Legal:
1 pound Natural Burley, cased in a light molasses / cocoa and toasted
1 pound Red FCV
1 pound Prilep
1/2 pound Light Fire Cured Virginia
1/4 pound Red Tips Burley (added after the press)
All selected leaves were equally divided into 3 piles which were then stacked on each other and placed in the press.
For this application, I did a light pressing with the plan to cube cut upon completion.
After a week in the press, it was removed and cube cut then placed into a large mixing bowl.
To this mixture, I'll add the 1/4 pound of Red Tips that were previously pressed and cubed.

You're already getting some of our members recipes. There are actually quite a few members here who blend their own. You'll soon see many more.

Dragonfly: Equal parts Hearth & Home Delta Days and Carter Hall. I don't have a gift for describing flavors and how they complement one another. I just know I like it.

I've tried a few concoctions. Some aren't too bad but I haven't smoked any of them more than once or twice - so if I ever decide on something I'll share it.
I enjoy a "Hobbit's Weed" match that I buy from 4noggins.com. There is a recipe for "Hobbit's Weed" on the internet: 50% Lane Limited BCA, 25% Lane Limited Very Cherry. 25% Sutliff 1M.
I haven't tried the recipe yet, but I did try my own variation: 50% Lane Limited BCA, 25% Wilkes Black Raspberry, 25% Sutliff 1M. I call it Hobbit's Weed Black - but I didn't let it age/meld - and I only smoked it once. I plan to tinker with the recipe in the future.

Burley Lite W/O Bite and Perique, damn near equal amounts. It's like German chocolate cake with nicotine.

Goldbrick ... Prilep is an Oriental variety grown in Macedonia. It's slightly sweeter than the Turkish grown Izmir and has a spicy, herbal quality. I'd be happy to send you a sample if you'd like to try it!

P.M. sent Darin, and thanks!!!
As to personal blends, you might not want to try this but ,I've mixed perique blends with cherry blends before , to bring more tobacco flavor to the cherry. A more plumy perique works best; I used Anne kake, with some cherry I picked up along the way, something like 25% cherry and the rest A.K. The result was very smokable ,but I like A.K. too much to make a habit of it. My home-blends have been hit or miss ,over the years. I have a Cherry Jar that was pure crap until I tossed in some raspberry tobacco a friend gifted me, and gave time a chance to work some magic. I have a 'Watch Tower" blend and a Johnny's Garden blend that were made back when McClelland tobacco was still in production; they turned out well with the luck of good timing. These days I add a dash of one thing or another to a bowl of anything that isn't really working for me, and if it rings my bell I might mix a small jar...my mixing projects were mostly from a time when I didn't know my likes and dislikes . I have better luck picking tobacco now that I've gotten to know my taste buds so well!

I am kind of interested in blending my own, but there are so many really really good blends already out there that i doubt i could even come close to them.
It might be cool to make up some of the members own blends that can be offered by the site as a fund raiser. Or not.

With limited tobacco selection here, I have tried one so far. Based on an accedental blending of tobaccos in my travel pouch. 50 grams Mr. B's ancient secret 25 grams Mr. B's wild anatolia It seems to work.

I am mixing a small batch. 5g Georgian cream 2g brown cow How long should I wait before I try it? I am wondering how long will it take for flavor to combine?

I don't think the flavors combine in the sense that a particular leaf has the mixed taste. Its just the mechanical mixing of the different single flavors. After a good mix I think you can try it out immediately, and I don't think it will change much after that.
Exception might be if you press the mixture into cakes, forcing a more complete proximity and shared surface area.
I could be wrong, but this is how it has been explained to me.

I don't mix up any personal blends, but I often smoke a parfait. Usually a cherry blend on the bottom. When the cherry starts burning its done.

It might be cool to make up some of the members own blends that can be offered by the site as a fund raiser. Or not. Start by finding a professionally-blended, mixture that you enjoy smoking. That's part: A. Then start adding small amounts of specialized leaf (eg. cigar-leaf, Perique, Latakia) to part A. Make notes, measurements, and jot recipes down in a small notebook. In no time at all you will come up with some customized concoctions that will strip your gears! BTW, I found small additions of Cigar Leaf, added to any mixture.... really sparks up the flavor without being overpowering.

Who enjoys making their own blend? Willing to share a recipe? Any guidance or advice creating a blend? I am at a point in my pipe smoking career I am now interested in creating my own blend. But I am unsure how to start. The easiest method: Find what you enjoy smoking and then add some other tobacco(s) to tweak the original blend. For example: let's say you enjoy OTC brand X, but find it a little too bland. So, order a few ounces of cigar-leaf and add a 1/2-gram or more, to an ounce of your OTC, and try it out. Ditto, with Latakia, Dark Fired, Perique, or other condimental tobaccos. Jot down all proportions and some critiques in a small notebook, so you can duplicate the custom blends that you enjoyed smoking. Be logical, mix only small amounts of "experiments", and write down everything. You'll soon come up with your own personal mixture(s). ************************************************************************************************** SORRY FOR THE REDUNDANT INFOR AND SUGGESTIONS. I TRIED TO DELETE THIS ^^^^^^^^ BUT WAS NOT SUCCESSFUL.
