Nice job on the restoration. Thanks! Luckily, it was in better shape than many of my 904/etc estate purchases. About an hour of cleaning yielded a great pipe! I'm interested in the match burn-off technique you used on the stem. I always soak in Oxi-clean, then scrub off with either 600-grit or Magic Eraser. The one time I tried to raise a bite mark out of a stem using a match, I ended up with roasted vulcanite.

Alcohol lamp is easier. It removes oxidation, not bite marks. If you burn the stem you over did it. You just want to burn off the surface. iit ttakes a light touch.

I use my IM Corona. The idea is to just blacken the very outer layer of the stem in small sections at a time. If you smell hot vulcanite, you've heated it too long.

greets & hope all had nice weekend. Usual full walks done, no-band 6x42 for company. After the Ed is fed, still working on last of '06 daVinci/Blackpoint with added latakia in SerJac Maxima 1/8 bent bulldog & continue with the papers. One last barrel of yard waste to go to local dump later. Otherwise, hope a quiet day.
40, now drizzly rain

My new German churchwarden with a bowl of Z92. That pipe has quickly turned into a real favorite. It is such a good smoker. And I keep trying other tobaccos and nothing yet has unseated Z92 as the go-to.

only thing accomplished, got last of yard waste to local station, all yard trash cans, garden tools, hoses to cellar. During trip to yard waste station, usual combo of crumbs in two gifted cobs ( no other pipes that small). Now CokeClassic at desk, same combo in LaughingBacchus meer in smoking room. Well deserved snoozie next, then to sups
42, constant light rain since got home from a.m. walks. At least both vehicles clean (on the outside at least)!
