Define "different". Please. Feel free to say what you actually mean. I would love to know. Sorry, not allowed. 🤠 That's what I thought. Expectations = met.

I wonder how many of those new gun owners bought with an understanding of the ammo crunch we have right now?

Can you miss with a shotgun? You bet you can. At average self-defense distances that pattern is quite small. The impact and damage is devastating but you have to DELIVER it.

I figure that if they are in my small house...I probably won't miss. Not looking at any longer distances than about 30 ft.

This brings up another germane topic: defensive handguns for the house.Probably the absolutely worst choice for such a job is a hot-loaded, short-barreled .357. A longer barrel won’t be much better. When you set it off you will both blind and deafen your attacker. Unfortunately that will happen to you as well. A .38, a 9mm, or a .45AUTO would be much better choices. Or maybe a spear!
Or even better, the most completely awesome close-combat weapon of them all: a wakizashi. Not a joke.

It's a Windlass Ulfberht Viking sword 31" overall double edged and nicely balanced. I also keep a Cold Steel Gladius machete for close encounters. And a 17" Waikiki just because they're cool. I fired a 22 Magnum in the bedroom once. I don't ever want to do that again. Of course if the intruder has a gun then I have to make a decision. 🤔🙄😩

You ever watch one of those Cop's shows? When there are 12 cops guns drawn and the guy will not listen to them. They bring out the K9 and suddenly the guy starts to listen. He is more in fear of one dog than he is then 192 round of 9mm.

I am afraid of knives and edged weapons. As in very afraid. Just goog “knife wounds” to get a taste of that fear. But... if you are on the other end of the blade your attack needs to relentless, merciless, and brought home again and again. The reluctance to slice up another human being is apparently inbred with us. Even the Samurai were not immune. They had a mantra before going into combat— “You have already been cut. You have already cut another.” Did it work? By the grace of the Great Spirit I have not had to try it and hope never to have to.

Somehow, armed assailants bursting into the house in the middle of the night seems a low level of risk. Thugs in the Walmart parking lot are more pressing. I understand why people open carry there. I do not but have no objections to others who do.

It has been said... If you are not a rebel when you are young, you have no heart; if you are not a conservative when you are older, you have no brain. Winston Churchill Churchill, yes, but in the interest of historical accuracy I'll point out two things: 1. Churchill wasn't the first to say it. It originated with a 19th century French academic named Anselme Polycarpe Batbie. 2. Both Batbie and Churchill did not use the term "rebel", they used the term "liberal". "Rebel" has begun to be substituted in recent years for whatever reason, but is inaccurate. As for guns, I have sporting weapons and have hunted for years, but they got boring pretty quick when I started shooting barebow traditional archery. Compared to that, shooting a gun feels awful mechanical - put the thing on the thing, squeeze trigger, hole appears .

Making the hole appear where you WANT it to appear is the trick.

That's why Im moving to handgun hunting. Ive wanted to get into bows for years, but I usually have a full beard, and its been a phobia of mine that one day the string upon the release would somehow rip a fist-sized chunk of beard out of the side of my face.
Its silly, I know, but it gives me the heebie-jeebies every time I draw a bow back.

That is actually a reasonable fear, because it could happen with a traditional corner-of-the-mouth anchor if you're shooting off your fingers. I know a couple guys with bushy beards that shoot with a mechanical release device, like what folks use on modern compound bows. If you do that, and especially if you use sights, you can float your anchor well away from your face (and beard).
I'd probably still be nervous too though... that would hurt like hell!

Estimates of how many guns there are in the US vary widely. From something like 300 million to 600 million. No doubt somewhere in between, but it’s pretty likely there is at least ONE gun for every man, woman, and child in our country. Robert Heinline said that an armed society is a polite society. Doesn’t seem to be turning out that way. Oh, I dont know. The rudeness, riots and such are mostly in the parts of the country with the strictest gun control, thus the least armed people. Ever been to a gunshow? Them folks are more polite than about any church Ive ever been to. 😁😎 I used to go to the gun shows and take the family; we always had a good time but they changed around here fall 2016. In winter 2017, I took the boy who wanted to see a knife at the booth we were perusing. He asked politely and the attendant just ignored him. I said, "Excuse me, could we see that knife?" The guy responded, "I don't sell to race traitors." My boy is Hispanic. I have not gone back.

I cannot imagine any manager allowing that nonsense, and would be grateful to be notified.

I have not been to a gun show in many years. They are far away from where I live. I recall the ones in California were a mixed group. Some knowledgeable and polite vendors and some were complete asshats who were there just to try and lord over people.
Gun stores are not much better. We have one store in town run by a nice, helpful guy. A second store is strictly for rich Texans. If he does not know you, get out. The third is for Vato Gang Bangers. His store is burgled about once each year. Somehow, he is allowed to stay in business.
