I just saw on the news that Charlie Pride won the CMA Lifetime Achievement Award. No one deserves it more. I saw him in concert at the Conroe Ballroom in 1971 and he had the crowd on their feet. He is also a beautiful soul.

Back in the 70's I was @ Six Flags in Texas. We were out in a common area and I noticed him and his family sitting across from us.
I told my mom that it was Charley Pride.
I went over and introduced myself (I was 12 or so), and asked for an autograph.
He said sure.... It was then that I realized that I didn't have anything for him to sign....
He asked his wife for something to sign, she obliged by ripping a deposit slip out of her check book and had him sign it.
It was definitely awkward, but memorable nonetheless.
Love that man

My old Cajun Dad loved him, but didn't know he was a black man, when I told him, he was bumfuzzled but still a big fan. I loved his music too, good soul too.

Well deserved albeit long overdue for recognizing his achievements. Congratulations Mr. Pride!

My wife had a different perspective.
She was a Wendy’s manager in Sunnyvale and he was there for the grand opening and was rude to her “get me a burger”!... no niceties.
We all have bad days though, and you never know what people are dealing with at any given time, and being a celebrity I am sure comes with some stresses that we cannot comprehend.
Country music is all the better for Charlie Pride’s contributions, hearing is songs always brightens the day.
My wife still respects his talent, I think it was just a shock to her that day.

Just goes to show how one bad day can affect the opinion of those who have come across you during that bad day.

I like Charlie Pride growing up his music often played on the giant Curtis Mathis record player next to Jim Reeves and the other greats.
