I’m betting that many, if not most, of us have a morning ritual about the first puffs of the day. Seems like so much of piping is involved with ritual of one sort or another. The pipes themselves, the tools and accouterments, tampers, pouches, etc., all part of it. My first bowl is always taken at the big, round, oak table in the dinette next to the kitchen. I have a nice office in the back of the house, but that table is “command central.” The first bowl, after a light breakfast, is in a churchwarden while I contemplate the woods outside the window and watch the dogs settle in for their after-brekkie naps. It’s such an easy, smooth transition into the day. Wouldn’t miss it.

Sounds like a great start to any day!  I grab a mug of coffee and something strong / Burley forward to smoke. Then, it's out to the back patio to watch the bird feeders and baths. |

If the weather is cooperative, it's on the back patio with a cup of coffee. Once we get into fall and winter, it's in my office. Generally, I light up and check the patch before I do anything else for the day.

My first bowl is usually a dark fired or Virginia on the back deck accompanied by coffee. Then its time to check messages and the Patch. If its too cod or rainy, I'll go downstairs where my wife really can't smell it.

First bowl of the day is shortly after the first cup of coffee on the porch if the weather is cooperating.

As I’m an outdoor smoker, it’s either on my patio looking into the forest or the golf course.

"Piping"  No ritual here. If I don't have a partial pipe leftover from the night before, I'll fill a chamber, light up, and go about my day, just a smoker here. |
