Obviously, we didn't get our shite together in time for Secret Santa to happen in December. After thinking some more about it though, it seems this year we are all inundated with "good feels" because of the pandemic situation, so while things are not normal by any stretch, there seems to be an excess of Christmas/Holiday cheer right now.
That being said... I think January is going to suck. So maybe the better plan is to do something in January so we all have something to look forward to after the hype of the holidays dies down, and all the lights and decorations get packed away for another year. I don't know about you, but my house seems barren after the de-decoration happens.
So, what say you all... how about we do "Jolly January - Secret Santa"? I will even volunteer to run/coordinate it. Those that are interested, post your thoughts so that I can get a count and see if it's worth it to start planning.

Not familiar with your “SS”. How does it work?

Not familiar with your “SS”. How does it work?
Basically everyone that wants to participate, agrees to purchase 2 tins of tobacco to be shipped to their SS recipient. Once I know all the participants, I will pair them up, provide contact information for your recipient, then you all go to town buying, shipping, and spreading general Jolly January cheer.
The general idea is to remain anonymous, but not required. While we encourage people to stick to the 2 tins, no one is restricted from doing more. We just don't want it to turn into a competition.

I think Jolly January is a great idea less going on and less stress in January. I would be up for this idea I like the way you think Justin.

It sounds like a great idea! I just sent a package out to a forum member literally minutes before this post, he knows something is on the way...I have some old socks I needed to get rid of. I certainly do not need anything, but hope we see a lot of participation. For Paypal users, this is easy peasy, and you can avoid waiting in line at the PO, print at home and drop it off in the package bin.www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_ship-now

My thought would be that by January first, I would have everyone matched up, get packages ordered/shipped by the second week. I'll look at a calendar in a bit here and see if I can nail down a more specific timeline.

Yo Just - great thought process. Avoids the holiday mail jam too. Would simply shipping from the Cellar get it done too? Or would that compromise the anonymity?

Cellar is usually fine. I prefer that as well then my recipient gets some aged stuff.

Count me in! Sounds like fun. I am an absolute newbie, so it would be helpful for someone like me if others put down their likes/dislikes.
One suggestion: every year my wife sets up a secret Santa name draw for our relatives on her side of the family. She uses drawnames.com - makes it really easy. Automatically assigns names and you can make exceptions so certain people can't have certain names (spouses in our case). You can also have people add their addresses so you can see your person's address. You all may have a good system, but I thought I'd mention it since we've had a lot of fun with it over the last 5-6 years. You can ask anonymous questions as well.

Just out of curiosity, wondering how this will work for our Canadian friends and those who live overseas? Do we have enough members to make it worthwhile for them to participate? Just asking.....

Matt, That looks like an excellent resource! If not used this year, it looks like a great way to plan next year.

lestrout - Cellar stuff is perfectly fine. rconix9 - There is actually a Secret Santa website that does it ALL for you. A friend of mine used it this year, so I'll be checking that out. taiguy66 - In years past, we attempt to match up people outside the US with other people in their respective countries if possible. If not, essentially the person outside of the US has to be willing to accept the possibility of the duties they may encounter from a US sender. There is no other way to do it other than excluding people outside the US, which I would prefer not to do by default.

I would be in.
And there's a side note, I would just like to let it be known that I'm not a big fan of Latakia.

Does it have to be tins or could it also be jars of tobacco? 🤔

To keep it standard, and so no one feels like they got the shaft, the minimum is 2 sealed tins. Anything additional that people would like to include is up to them.

Question. When you pair us up will we be told what is preferred to send? Or do I decide what I hope that they will like. One more side note. I am more than happy to send (or at least attempt to) globally.

The Secret Santa website that I'm using will allow people to create a "wishlist" as well as the sender being able to anonymously message their recipient to ask them for recommendations. I will also be sure to ask people preferences when we do the initial signup, which should help simplify things.
Isn't technology wonderful? lol

Sounds like a lot of fun. I looked through the 2018 thread to see what folks have done before. Have never done a SS so I am really excited.

I don't want to assume and then catch someone off guard who was not prepared for it.
