Aside from the tree, the egg-nog, and the Christmas music, my house has to have the aroma of cherry pipe tobacco. Somewhere back in my wife's past, the cherry aroma became connected with Santa, and no matter how many times I explain that Santa smokes Pumpkin Spice, that cherry smell is her proof that Santa has come and gone...it's been that way since the late seventies, and my first days as a pipe smoker. Of course, the way this year has been, we're just happy and blessed to be above ground, but I still made a point to have the "cherry Jar" ready and waiting for Christmas morn.
What about you folks? what little thing makes your Christmas more special?

A Danish almond puff with almond drizzle. Meats, patés, terrines, cheeses, and baguettes for brunch. Mom's Christmas toffee, iced sugar cookies, german pecan cookies dusted in confectioners sugar.

That sounds just wonderful ,Jason...after we unwrap gifts, I'll find myself in front of the stove fixing a late breakfast of cream chipped beef over hot biscuits, for the two of us...then ,in the late evening I'll cook a standing rib roast for six...that happens every year too.

My dad's peanut butter fudge - which I now make to continue the tradition. And I just found his recipe for peanut brittle - so I'll start making that too.
My cranberry and orange muffins and loaves.
My wife's homemade caramels and divinity - which she hasn't made yet.
Our little 3' Christmas tree decorated with our children's Hallmark baby ornaments.

Man oh man! I just had a small slice of cranberry Christmas cake...now there's something that could become a tradition. My oldest sister-in-law{ one of five }found it on youtube, and she knows I'm a cranberry junkie.
Look it up, fellers...it'll make you slap your mama, or my name ain't Charlie Jinkins!

Another tradition is that every Christmas I buy my boys (and myself) a pocket knife for a stocking stuffer. They've got a nice collection by now. Nothing extravagant. This year a Kershaw Veddar.

You’ll have to give us a review Charlie. I’ve tried the Vanilla Cream and it was average. Hope yours is much better.

I do find it funny and a bit ironic how we eat ham on Christmas as Jesus was Jewish.

Christmas morning here it's the smell of coffee brewing. Bacon in the pan for breakfast. Christmas music on records while I watch my family open their presents. When I finish putting the turkey in the oven it's time for my Christmas cigar. The rest of the day plays how it may.

I'm not sure what it is that makes the day what it is...I suppose it's the opening presents in our jammies, going to church for the Christmas day service, then coming home to prep a decent roast dinner. It used to be the films on TV, but that's kinda not the same anymore what with streaming services.
I wonder if I could start that tradition of leaving a love pipe aroma in the house to show that Santa has been...wonder would the wife fall for that one?

The usual smells, turkety roadting, ham also, pork roast with rich brown gravy, homemade bread, but the thing for me is fruit salad, Made with rich heavy cream, served cold My Father Brother Wife served it when I was a small boy and it had to be there for Christmas.

What about you folks? what little thing makes your Christmas more special? Sleep I work a 7/12 shift. My last day off was Thanksgiving, the one prior was Labor Day. As of Christmas Eve and everyday up to January 2nd, every day I'm paid triple time, so all I ask for on Christmas is to get as much sleep as possible.

Your point is well made though! Ham never goes over well in this house either. I make a prime rib roast on Christmas. Username, astute observation. I'd never thought about it before.

I made prime rib yesterday too, forth year so far...mighty good. Everyone that walked in the door came with something to make the meal more special; it reminded me of the old story "Stone Soup" I hope everybody had a day to remember.
