I know that the post office is having problems/delays with deliveries but it's odd how some packages are held up and others are not.
I sent 2 packages to Texas and they arrived without any real delay. I purchased something on Ebay on December 25th and got it the 28th.
But 2 other Ebay purchases have been held up for a couple weeks. One arrived at a USPS facility in Hazelwood, MO on December 17th. Today it finally showed movement - tracking says: PROCESSED THROUGH USPS FACILITY DETROIT, MI 48233. (It started in Michigan!) Tracking on the other says it departed St Louis, MO on Dec 15th. Tracking shows nothing more.
Amazon and UPS don't seem to be having any delays.
Maybe the postal service needs to be contracted out to private contractors!
Anyone else seen this lately?

Yes. I'm expecting a package that left Indiana on 12/14 and hasn't updated status since.

25% of the packages I've ordered since Dec. 5th are MIA. Several I sent have taken weeks. I always ship Priority and it doesn't seem like that's the right word this month.
I even sent a pipe UPS 2 Day Air LAST MONDAY, trying to get it to my customer for Christmas, and it's not arriving until today. I'm going to get a refund. It cost me $50.

I had a package get stuck in Denver for 12 days then stuck in Santa Clarita for 3 before finally being delivered. That’s about it everything else has been a day or two behind but overall not that bad.

Yes. Friend sent me a 1st class package on the 19th and it arr'd y'day. Some stuff is way behind that. Combo of Covid and holiday rush I reckon. The USPS certainly isn't the Royal Mail. In fact, the Royal Mail isn't the Royal Mail either.

I am certain that between the genius who was appointed Postmaster Generalissimo, COVID-19, the holidays with the increase in volume, they have their problems. Might take a little patience. For me, USPS is way more reliable than UPS or the Ghost Riders in the Sky, aka Federal Express. Some of those trucks are never seen again once out here.

That’s about it everything else has been a day or two behind but overall not that bad. And that truck more than likely travelled through Arizona from Denver to Santa Clarita, Ca. What is really mind blowing is when it is something like a 6 foot pallet of High $$$$$ freight, and no damages are noted until it gets to a Tucson dockworker that notates it, which means the Santa Clarita dock gets tagged with the damages. The more a package is handled, the more opportunity for loss. With all the technology in routing, quite often bad decisions are made to keep it moving.

I ordered a lamp and shoe insoles from Walmart a few weeks ago. The order was processed at a distribution center 100 miles from me. It went to a mail hub 80 miles from me...sat for 2 days then went to a mail hub 25iles from me...sat there for 3 days... Departed and went to a hub 200 miles away for 4 days.. went back to the hub 80 miles away for 2 days then to the hub 25 miles away once again for 3 more days... Arrived at my Post office sat for 2 days then finally made it to my porch.... Did I say I qualified for free 2 day shipping? Well I did! LOL see where that got me!

Yes, was ranting about this yesterday. All my “guaranteed delivery” parcels are late and all my parcels set to arrive next week arrived early. Hate to be a letter carrier right now.

Tired of seeing this sad movie. It is not worth paying for priority, packages sent as parcel ground arrive at the same time.

We are getting packages delivered every day. One from California went to Michigan, then Wisconsin. It's closer now.

Tired of seeing this sad movie. It is not worth paying for priority, packages sent as parcel ground arrive at the same time. I love the one from the post office that says, “We are verifying your address” or something to that effect. Funny, I haven’t moved and the mail man’s managed to deliver to my address for the last 16 years. Personally I’m waiting for them to speak the truth and say, “We fu€£&) up and lost your package...”. Like that’ll ever happen.

Yes, was ranting about this yesterday. All my “guaranteed delivery” parcels are late and all my parcels set to arrive next week arrived early. Hate to be a letter carrier right now. It's not always the local mail carrier's fault. (Well, sometimes it is - I've had two or three piece of mail that have been miss-delivered in the past three months.) I believe most mail and packages either get lost or stolen in the various processing facilities handling the mail. I've had three packages this month get "lost in transit" at the New Orleans Regional Origin Facility, for example. I've also had packages I've shipped out go missing at the same facility. In most cases, the packages fall off the conveyor belt and is lost on the floor because the workers don't give a shite and don't pick it up. USPS tracking is a joke because of this. The system only works as well as the operators and when packages don't get scanned, they don't show movement. Amazon isn't immune to this either, especially when Amazon's shipping partner of choice is USPS. I order stuff using Amazon Prime which tells you "Guaranteed Delivery by..." only to be disappointed because what should be a two day delivery arrives five days later. I had one package that was seven days late and tracking showed it had been in Alabama for eight days. Amazon "investigated" and said it was lost in transit and issued me a refund. Five days later it got delivered in a package that looked like it sat in a ditch for a week. Okay, I'll stop ranting.

Government says Vacine will be Warp Speed, more like Donkey Kong speed.!

First, we have a rule in this house. We order nothing from Amazon anymore. My bank account was compromised so many times because of fraudulent charges made by scam companies on Amazon that I finally said “enough”. Most of it was cheap, Chinese electronic crap that my wife and daughter would order, like pretty/girly cell phone cases, longer charging cords and ear buds and such. By default, cutting out Amazon then cut down on mail headaches.
Strangely enough, we’ve had packages delivered by UPS in both UPS and U-Haul trucks in the last week.

My biggest concern is not what I'm getting but the bills I send in for payment. I've been getting a lot of emails from credit card companies and utilities about my pay date coming up. I'm keeping an eye on late charges for checks sent weeks ago. Some blame Covid but I believe it's a work slowdown by the postal employees in reaction to the changes made by the head postmaster general. Just my opinion of course.

I've experienced a lot of delays among all the carriers over the last few months. Fedex and USPS have suspended foreign shipments for covid, but DHL continues, bless their hearts. Interestingly, I've never had a package lost. They have had some serious delays, but they all eventually showed up, regardless of carrier.

My experience so far in the last few months... UPS has reigned supreme when it comes to being accurate and on-time, at least in my area. FedEx has been subpar, USPS has been dismal. I knew there was a reason brown was one of my favorite colors.

You might want to look into online bill pay by your bank, John. I was reluctant at first, but the banks have the best encrytption technology around, and I have never had a problem, the bills have always been paid on the due date. No stamps, and the money stays in my account longer than theirs.

Maybe the postal service needs to be contracted out to private contractors! Anyone else seen this lately? Your suggestion that the postal service may need to be contracted out to private contractors is one I would support only on a full nation wide system basis by major competent/capable companies. In rural areas like mine, the final leg of delivery is in many communities handled by private contract delivery carriers (individuals/not companies). There were some issues in the early years of such contracting, but not really bad ones. Now for the last couple of years the contractor for my rural route is sub-contracting the route to someone else and the USPS is allowing the practice. The true contract holder has figured out the price structures needed to win route contract bids when they come up for bid and now holds contracts for several routes/uses subcontractors to actually run the routes owned and sits back at home making money. The subcontractors are not happy/jealous of the contractor holder and they consequently are doing rushed don't give a damn efforts in handling the routes. Errors galore are being made, packages delivered to the wrong address and never recovered. The local postmaster is extremely limited in what they can do about the problems because they are not backed up/supported by the regional postal management. I've started marking the face of wrongly delivered mail to me that the mail is "Not for this address!" in red ink, so that the carrier will hopefully be embarrassed a bit when delivering it to the proper recipient. I never have had problems with UPS/FED EXP/Prime in my area.
