A Stanwell Royal Danish from ebay. Handsome, I think. Seems like a good smoker, too.

A nice one, it looks like a Va. flake pipe to me.

Won bids on many EBay estate pipes and haven’t had a problem except for one. The one exception coming from Italy and it arrived a month after its due date. The only thing about EBay is due diligence and set a limit on how much you’re willing to spend. It’s easy to get caught up on the hype and bidding war.

Nice pipe! Beware the estate pipe rabbit hole. So many great deals that you wake up one day with 80 pipes. Ask me how I know...

That's really sweet...back in the early eighties, when I was buying a pipe every payday, The Tinder Box had three new lines from Stanwell...Royal Danish, like yours, Royal Guards, which were half rusticated freehands, and I can't recall the third. I picked out one of the Royal Guards and liked it so much I followed with another , but the second was an estate ,and set me back almost twice what I paid for the first. The first pipe ,and indeed all three lines sold for twenty eights bucks, right out of the display case. What I wouldn't give for a time machine!!!

Good looking piece. A bit of oxidation, but no difficult task to remove. Great find!

I agree with the above...that's a superb find. The shape and design is lovely. Give it a wee polish up and let us all know how it smokes!

Thanks, gents. What’s the best way to remove the slight oxidation?

That's great pipe, that's all I buy is estate pipes, usually older Petersons (with exclusion to JM Boswells pipes)

When I first started into pipe smoking, I decided I had to find something to "collect". Stanwell Royal Danish is what I settled on. At the time I had no particular shape, or size preference, so the variety, slight difficulty in finding them, and the "unique" factor made them a great choice. Eventually I found my niche and parted with the ones I had collected, but they are great pipes.

Thanks, gents. What’s the best way to remove the slight oxidation? A little toothpaste or a magic eraser works great. Lots of videos out there how to re-furbish estate pipes.
