Gandalf, as described and pictured sounds spot on. I prefer no powdered sugar and hold the jelly. The wife likes it with both.
I have been disappointed when I have ordered it and it comes grillled, to me it just isn’t the same.
I have had instances where a restaurant decided to re-invent the sandwich California style, added a bunch of stuff that bombed out badly.

I had seen posts on here about the Monte Cristo - so yesterday when I saw it on the menu and read how it was made, I thought I'd try it once in my life. But mine might not have been made right. On the internet it says it contains ham and turkey and swiss cheese, and that it is fried - but it showed the sandwich being skillet fried like a grilled cheese sandwich. The one I had was ham and turkey with swiss and American cheese, on whole wheat bread. But then, the sandwich was dipped in batter and deep fried! Then quartered, sprinkled with powdered sugar, with raspberry preserves on the side. Sounds right, but did you like it? It was great.

I have had them both ways, Gandalf: deep fried, and French Toast style. Some food historian might say otherwise, but I don't think there's a right or wrong way. The powdered sugar and raspberry -- specifically raspberry -- preserves are de rigeur.

Roast beef on one slice of bread. Lettuce and horseradish sauce.
That was the last bread slice. So, it is now time for me to bake a loaf.

Made a thin crust pizza. Olive oil, Reggiano parmesan cheese, sliced salami, anchovy filets, fresh cracked pepper. No tomatoes.

If you have any goats John, they might have eaten your keys.
I found a long lost set of keys in a large Mason jar filled with nuts and bolts. When I remembered back, I remembered my daughter playing on the patio. I guess she was helping clean up.

Not likely they would have gotten the keys.

Loaf of bread made into a Batard.
1/2 unbleached bread flour, the other a compo of whole wheat and spelt. Milk, eggs, melted butter. Not as rich a loaf as Brioche but more than the usual Italian style I make.
I have started a small batch of sourdough and that will help with future loaves. I like using the Italian Biga in the dough.

A two egg spinach omelet with Reggiano Parmesan and fresh cracked pepper. I had to use frozen spinach and that is not as good tasting as fresh.

There's a drunk chicken on the Green Egg, and homemade Tater salad and mac salad in the fridge...friends on the way with a pork loin and fresh rolls. It should be a heck of a meal.
Happy Easter, Herb.

My wife made reservations at a winery for lunch. Turned out to be a blueberry farm. All their wine is made from their blueberries.
I had a Ali tuna appetizer. Then a 10oz Ribeye with mash potatoes. Blueberry cobbler for desert.
Nice place. All the tables were outdoors. The steaks were cooked outdoors on a big grill. Live entertainment.
They served 5 or 6 different blueberry wines. I had 1 they called "Barrel Aged Reserve". It was OK. But their "Delightfully Dry" was great.

Dinner in town with my Ex and her partner. We are all friends.
An excellent Pork Butt slow roasted, a sweet potato dish I would love to make, spicy Brussels Sprouts and a big green salad.
Oh, and Glenlivet to wash it all down.
