The owner showed up with the mare in spite of the cold, and I got her worked. It’s gonna take quite a bit to get her where she wants her but we made progress. Scheduled another session for day-after-tomorrow.

The Minwax? I loved that stuff. We were going to use it on some cabinets. Bummer. 😕
Seems they still have a few of the Stain + Poly blend, but I believe they are all oil based now, and the color selection was sub-par. I'm just annoyed that they would get rid of Dark Walnut. That's a pretty standard color to remove from a line of stains. Morons.
In the not so recent past, Justin I called on the big box home improvement stores. Trust me, there are a lot of duds in that gene pool. That was a big reason for me exiting that job, it was like a herd of Ted Kaczinski types were out to get me with off-gassing barrels of toxic stew. They have no training, and no common sense. If you can find a smaller Home improvement type retailer, you are better off, I had conferred with managers at the executive levels, and they weren't much better than the drum dumping dummy.

I have to drive 26 miles to go to the real hardware store with same people there for at least the last six years. They have everything and only carry the good stuff and they have a pop corn maker.

That is some serious crap there, bro.
You need to change your forum handle to Aqualung instead of Lizardonarock.

Weekly lunch date with mom today. Also, as she’s getting older and more fragile, we visited an independent senior living complex today. She was very impressed!

I've had good luck with Ace Hardware stores, fwiw. When I lived in Northern California, my local ace hardware hired retired plumbers for the plumbing aisle, retired carpenters in the wood section, etc. The big box stores hire the chicks that were selling nail polish last week.

Their employees get actual training in how to repair things, as well.

If the Lowe's or HD hire a plumber, they don't let him work in the plumbing department because of liability. Same with electricians, painters, etc.

I can confirm that few do not know not to mix oxidizer and flammables together... Acids and corrosives, etc.

Just common sense.
I opened one drum at a stop, hit my nose and scrubbing bubbles were in the testicular region immediately.
No long term effects, I got fresh air immediately, but that was a watershed moment.

Well, IMHO if people would stop suing over everything maybe these stores wouldn't be so afraid to give professional advice. I don't blame the big box store, I blame the gold diggers who want to make their mistakes into a cash cow by placing the blame on someone else. Yes I realize there is a time and place for lawsuits, I just think we as a society have taken to the motto "it cant be my fault, and someone has to pay for this!"

Nice winter day in central Illinois. Almost 40 and sunny. Ate lunch at our favorite Mexican restaurant. Indoor dinning now allowed in our county - at 25% capacity. Drove to a small nearby town and bought 8 1lb containers of various reloading powder at my favorite supplier.
My son stopped by later. He smoked a cigar. I smoked my pipe. We sampled several liquid refreshments. Talked about guns, knives, politics, work ..... A good time.

I got a shingles vaccination yesterday and my arm was sore today. Still, I raked a few bushels of leaves and I picked up a bunch of limbs and burned them. Then I got tired and took a nap. Woke up with a 102 degree feve. FFeeling aa little better now. I hope it helps me avoid the shingles in the future. "Then she educated me that if you had chicken pox as a kid, as you grow older the antibodies decrease, and once you get to Medicare age the injection is not covered." I'm on Medicare. Traditional Medicare Parts A & B do not cover Shingrex vaccine. However, if one has a Medicare Part D Plan for drugs you do have coverage for the vaccine with a copay involved. I have a Medicare Part D plan and when I took the 2 Shingrex shots last Fall the retail price for each shot was around $210/ea. as I recollect and my copay was $64/ea. I took them out of fear from many of the symptoms many are aware of (pain/rash/blindness issues) but also because of nerve damage that can result in one's legs. I know of a super strong man who came down with shingles and it attacked the nerves in his legs and left him hardly able to walk with a walker. It took months of physical therapy for him to recover his normal walking abilities. The first of the two Shingrex shots made me feel a bit bad for a couple of days. The second one left me feeling off somewhat for about a half day.
For folks planning to take the Corona Virus vaccine, you should check the timing of when you plan to take a Shingles vaccine vs. the CV vaccine. I don't remember the details, but there needs to be a timing gap between taking another vaccine and the CV vaccine.

These corporations are in a position to do something about spurious lawsuits. They do not want to be bothered. I worked for an insurance company that was a master at stonewalling litigation. They paid no claims so their insured would sue. They developed techniques at delaying and deflecting litigation. It was a point of honor with them.

Beautiful sunny day but a mite cold as is usual following a Front passing trough.
Out chipping ice from the water tanks. Cats playing on the firewood pile. Bought more firewood last evening. When they guys come by, I usually purchase their load. They know I can be depended upon when they need the money. Firewood, blocked and split, is an item that cannot be found when needed and desperate. Something to stock up on in abundance.

Actually made 58° today, with great sun, too. We’ve had a string of dreary, cold, windy days so today was a real blessing. The dogs got a nice run. Well, Eli got a nice run. Jack went right to the Rhino and indicated he wanted the tailgate dropped so he could jump in and RIDE instead of RUN. There’s nothing wrong with him but incipient laziness, but I let him ride. Dang dog gets most everything he wants. (When I die I wanna come back as one of my dogs but that’s gonna be a good trick.) Eli continues to amaze me with his stamina and speed. Greyhound is said to be one of the formative breed-mixes of GSPs, back in the mid-19thC. You can sure see it in Eli although he is not built the same way at all. Chatting with a friend about what a mixed GSP and Golden Retriever would be like as a hunting/companion dog. I’ve an idea it would be pretty good.

A sense of security, certainly. Wood is my main heat source. Without it, I will be dead in 24 hours during winter. The house can hold heat about eight hours. 12 hours and it is colder inside that I would want to be. 24 hours and I better be in a sleeping bag. Zero degrees (F) is common. 35 degrees below Zero is the coldest I have seen it hear. Not unusual to drop into min high teens or low 20s. So, constant burning is the key. I go through about six or seven cords each season.

We always stocked in the firewood when I was growing up on the farm, you can never have too much of the stuff! In the little southern Oregon town I grew up in it never got below about 10 degrees fahrenheit. only got below freezing at all for a short part of the winter. Still we got a good 2 feet of snow each year for about three weeks. (Yea I know, that's nothing LOL)

Winters are cold, damp, and dark in the forest.
