Riding a bicycle is good cutting and stacking firewood is best left to those who were to ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, to study in school. I am pretty sure Dewalt is coming out with a battery powered log splitter or they need to. Fifty years ago my old man was so frugal we did everything by hand and the hard way. It was so bad one year I was gifted a grubbing hoe and a new shovel handle for Christmas all I really wanted was a bicycle the worst part is this is a true story. 63f in the woods north o Houston not a bad way to end the day if only I had a bicycle.

Cold snap. No run for the dawgz y’day but today I took them for a walk Not as long an outing as they would have liked but all I wanted to do in the cold wind. I always feel guilty when I don’t take them out for their afternoon exercise. Especially Eli, who is inexhaustible. T’row to be even colder so we will see if we will brave the elements. No snow, and none in the forecast but the whole state is now officially in drought so we could sure use some.

Cleaned out a corner of my office and put my newly built spin bike there so I can hopefully accomplish my goal of losing 25 pounds by ton the locsl bike tril - like he was standing sill. He chased me down, when he was able to catch up with me just to ask how old I was. he end of May (my 45th birthday) I bought a Nautilus stationary bike last March. Used it for awhile, then let it slip. Real biking was/is my thing - but fate has screwed me a bit over the last few years. I started biking in 2017 and did 2200 miles. Lost 50 lbs! In 2018, I planned to do at least 3000 miles, but a slipped disc in my neck stopped me at 750 miles on Memorial Day. Lost the rest of the year. Had to have C6 and C7 vertebrae fused. In 2019, my mother took a turn for the worse health-wise. Only got in 350 miles. Had to move her into my home and care for her. She passed that August. Spent the rest of the year and much of 2020 maintaining/liquidating her property. Still not quite done with that. And of course, 2020 was shot to hell because of COVID. Started exercising again on the stationary bike a little in December, and again this week. Told the wife, nothing is going to stop me from biking this year. Unfortunately, I have to lose that 50 lbs all over again. Good luck with your spin bike. Keep at it. It's worth it. Maybe try biking on a bike trail if you don't already. It's great! You'll feel wonderful. I was 62 years old in 2017 when I first got started with "serious" biking. One day I passed a guy in his late 20's on a steep hill on the local bike trail - like he was standing still. He chased me down - when he was able to catch up - just to ask me how old I was. He was impressed, but I told him I had been riding all summer and that was the 106th time I had climbed that steep hill. Sorry to hear about Mom buddy. I’m gonna work hard at it as I’m sure you will be too. Rooting for you!

Morning all. It’s currently 25F (-4C) for our metric friends. Think today is a good day to stay inside and stay warm. Forecast calling for snow this evening and into Tuesday.

A couple inches of snow overnight.
Sunny this morning and I suspect the day will warm to over 32 degrees (F).
I knew it would snow. My left leg bone and knee hurt so bad I had to take Hydrocodone and Tylenol pills along with a measure of Wild Turkey. Kept me awake most of the night.

Looking at videos of the local lake. The only natural lake in Texas. We can't wait to book a tour.

Cold this morning, started out a brisk 22 degrees. But the sun is out and there is no wind, so it’s pretty nice. Went out and got some more firewood split and stacked. I’m wrecking a wall in the living room looking for a flue from the chimney outside to put a stove in this place. Nothing so far. No flue...and no insulation in the walls. No wonder my electric furnace has handed me an electric bill over $500.00 the last 2 months.

Snowed last night, for the first time this winter. Was great to play in the snow with the girls for a bit.
Was also good to get inside and put both fires on.

Burning some burn piles after working all night. Got hoses hooked together Calfire drip torch 50-50 mix plus some short road flares. Looks like it's time for a pipe and a water showing me going back out in the morning.

Looks like it's time for a pipe and a water showing me going back out in the morning. I visited my cousin in Nowheresville Kansas and he ran a machine shop. He showed me his heating unit in a steel building facility. He had a stockpile of retired railroad ties and set up rollers and an auto feeder and gate to add the timbers to the furnace. The furnace was well built by the staff, no creosote leaked inside and it provided steady heat, but the smoke outside was pretty impressive. Pretty toasty inside! "What about the EPA on doing burns?" 'EP what?" he replied. "Nevermind"

Well that's all and well but the old ties had a lot more in them then creosote. Like arsenic and other stuff!

They use a lot of concrete ties now. Would make good fence post if your strong enough but putting a fence staple in them would be a real problem!

At one of my houses, I fenced in 3 acres and used 9 foot RR ties buried 4 feet deep with 160 pounds of concrete in every hole. In between the ties were T-posts every 6 feet. That was something I'll NEVER do again! Lol

I wish I had a couple hundred so I could terrace the yard down to the pond. I made a retaining wall at my last house - out of RR ties. About 60 or 70 of them. I ended up buying 5 or 6 chains for my chain saw - and a chain sharpener. First couple cuts went like butter. By the 5th cut the chain was done. I would make 5 cuts, change the chain, make another 5 cuts, ..... Sharpened all the chains at the end of the day and started again the next day. That sharpener was one of the best buys I ever made.
