Legend Lover saith... "I got a load of peat the other day. I love the smell of it burning. Nothing beats the smell of peat."
And speaking of peat, here is a pic of two Irish friends, brothers, in their houseen in West Kerry. With their fire you could put in your pocket, a lump of peat burning away. They were islandmen and though at the time living on the mainland they were still in sight of their beloved birthplace. (As a side note, as small boys fishing out in their naomhog (curragh), they were terrified as the first aeroplane they had ever seen came roaring very low out of the west and screamed right over their heads. It was Lindbergh making his Irish landfall. He never told the truth about what happened when he made land. Not saying he lied, just that he never told the whole truth.)

Really strong thunder storms last night and this morning. 69 and sunny now. Went to Walmart, ate Mexican food and picked up 2 gross of minnows for the pond. Now relaxing with some music.

Had truck towed to shop transmission throwing solenoid codes. Lets cross our fingers a double handful of new solenoid's is a wet dream vs a rebuild on the trans.

It is not fair that old folks have to scroll so far down for age verification.

The house just shook when the snow unloaded from the roof. Our Boxer is in meltdown mode from it.

Snow started here just after 7am. Piddling amount all day off and on. Ended up with about an inch. More supposed to be coming, but as now another confirmation of the 65% wrong tally for the weather boffins. High was 30°. No dog run today. No excuse, just no run. Pups did not seem too disappointed. I certainly wasn’t at all.

(I know that's a dumb question, but I was raised mostly in the city, and while I know a little about chickens, cows, and horses, the only ducks I've been around were cooked, stuffed, or in Ireland.)

Nope pan dropped failure someplace going with local builder four grand and they are throwing in a oil change and engine oil sender and screen. But you can not build a GM Trans correctly for less than 3000. in parts. I am using a local repair shop that I at least trust. Not that we put the yee haw back in your transmission place.

If it makes you feel any better, the quote to fix the driveway came in at 16,500. The fence at 6,500, and the plumbing/septic total 10,500.

When I re-read my earlier post it seemed that I was making aspersions against Lindbergh and I don’t want to leave that impression. He had been aloft for 24 hours when he reached the Irish coast and he had 10 hours left to go. His feat was truly remarkable. He just left out a few details. Here is what he wrote in WE and THE SPIRIT OF ST LOUIS... “The coastline came down from the north and curved towards the east. I had very little doubt that it was the southwestern end of Ireland, but in order to make sure I changed my course towards the nearest point of land. “I located Cape Valencia and Dingle Bay, then resumed my compass course towards Paris.” Actually he was quite far from the “southwestern end of Ireland.” He also gives a bit of a clue when he writes that he “resumed” his compass course to Paris. “Resume” indicates hemay have deviated from his course, which he certainly did. Here is what actually happened. The two boys were fishing and playing their naomhog (curragh) off the northern shore of their island. Suddenly a dark object appeared to the west , closing on them rapidly and making a tremendous noise. It passed over them, very low, and from their description of its relationship to the cliffs of the island I estimate from 50-100 feet off the water. They were terrified as it passed over them. It was the first aeroplane they had ever seen. The younger of the two (on the right in the photograph) said that it “deafened” him. Straight ahead of the Spirit as it made landfall was Sliabh an Iolair, Mount Eagle, about 2000 feet high. The mouth of Dingle Bay would have been clearly visible to the right, not much more than a mile away. But Lindbergh banked hard left and flew north up the coast. In just a few miles he followed the coastline as it veered east. In another mile or so, flying due east, just off the shore from The Three Sisters small peaks, he passed over another naomhog, with a single fisherman in it. The man stood up and began waving his arms at Lindbergh. He could see the pilot looking down at him as he passed over, still very low. Everyone (save the boys and the other islanders who had no telephone or radio) knew that Lindy was coming. But of course no one, not even Lindbergh himself, could know where on the coast he would greet land. But the man in the naomhog had planned ahead. He was a torpedoman on leave from a Royal Navy battleship, the uncle of a friend. He was not waving his arms in terror— he was semaphoring the compass heading to Orly. But Lindbergh, after 24 hours, nearly exhausted perhaps, evidently could make nothing of it. Lindy flew on and in less than a mile he came to the mouth of a large bay, Smerwick Harbor. He turned into it, now flying due south. Now, being east of the bulk of Mount Eagle he could have clearly made out the glint of Dingle Bay, straight ahead. In a few seconds he passed over another Irish boy I talked with much later, in a marsh east of the mountain. A few more seconds and he was over Dingle Bay. He banked left, and flew due east through the bay and on to Paris. He had been lost, but had found his way. I hope I haven’t bored the reader. Just a small glitch in the great panorama of history. But I thought it was interesting and that I should share it after I seemed to belittle the Great Aviator.

I can only speak for myself, but I didn't read it that way. He was a great aviator, but regardless, he was a tool of Hitler.

But when he roared over “my boys” he was just a brave young fly-boy making history. I love him for that, and regret what he became later.

Lindbergh was before my time and I never gave him all that much thought, other than that he was a good pilot that looked and acted exactly like Jimmy Stewart.

I can forgive Lindberg his fascist tendencies. His solo flight was an act of supreme courage or utter madness. In any event he deserves every accolade and every criticism.

Spend some time today getting my exercise bike to sync with the manufacturers phone app, then getting the phone app to sync with "Map My Ride" - the app I use when biking. It stayed sync'ed from Feb 2020 until this month, then just quit a couple days ago. Finally got it all working.
Then shoveled a couple of inches of snow off the driveway.
Then, while I was outside, I did some trouble shooting of 2 security cameras that quit working a couple days ago. It was another synchronization problem. Finally deleted them from the system, then added them back into the system. That got them operating again.
Wondering if there was an EMP a couple days ago. LOL
