Managed to make my way through Kroger after luper, this week was extra tough so I am glad to be home in my chair. Recovery has not been going well as the gains are very small but I do the best I can manage and don't use a cane of a electric scooter to get from point a to b. My wife's told grandfather great stories about the Tahoe area they used to pay people to go there with a free 5room food and gambling money back in the early 60s.

Lovely Sunday.
Got the Yamaha 400 CC ATV back for irrigation duties. That will heps immensely since I can barely walk. So, found two beaver dams in the main channel and about 600 feet of ditch needs widening. Excavator arriving this week.
It will be a busy three weeks!

There are techniques for living with them but everything takes lots and lots of money. This area is so poor, that it is not possible to do much.

Got the old Toyota Landcruiser running after being dormant all winter. I cannot roll up the Driver's window all the way. The fan for the heater/defroster has stopped running and I cannot figure out why. It is cold riding during winter months. So, I leave it parked. Not much trouble. Trickle charge the batter overnight. Top up the power steering fluid and clutch/brake fluid. Turn the engine several times to get some oil into the Head, Pour gas into the carburetor. Crank, crank, crank and varooom! Always starts and runs fine. 34 years we have been together. I cannot imagine it not being in the driveway. Commanche Point in the Valle Vidal of NM, circa 2009

34 years ago I remember listing after a new Landcruiser, but having a young family we had a 84 Mazda and a 69 Chevy Impala.
Glad that the old cruiser has been so faithful, John.

Eli’s cat seems to have gone missing. Hasn’t been around for four days. That’s the longest AWOL time since she showed up here and adopted us14 months ago. I fear the local coyotes or GHOs have claimed her. That’s the usual demise for cats here. For that reason I tried not to get attached to her but she was so friendly and personable it was hard not to. I continue to hope she may still show up, perhaps preggers, but I fear it is a vain hope.

[/quote] I have quite an outdoor cat population here. They come and go. It is not unusual for some to disappear and then re-appear. Several I have been fond of disappeared never to be seen again. I figure Coyotes as they are all around. I hope your cat returns. It can still happen.

If she's footloose and fancy-free, 4 days doesn't seem all that terribly long for her to be elsewhere, but you know her better than I do. Preggers is certainly possible.

I have some Tannerite. Now to convince the ‘otes to carry some in little back packs with target pasters on them...

I put out meat scraps for the coyotes. Far from the house. They belong here. They are welcome. I know what to do if they get too close.
And, now I have another story.... (somebody stop him!)
I was a neighbor's house here for a cookout. He has a fire ring in the back and we sit around a blazing fire after dinner at night, spinning yarns and roasting Smores for he kids. His cousin, a Schwabian from Bavaria, plays a mean harmonica in the American Blues style. So he started playing while we sat around the fire. Now, this neighbor frequently put out food scraps for the coyotes in his back pasture. So, when cousin Walter started playing, a pair of coyotes just out of the light in that back pasture started up with their soprano keening wail. It was something to hear the harmonica and the coyotes together. That went on all evening.

Sitting waiting dispatcher said a car ran into the train ahead of me guess they could not see it. Maybe they failed the eye test

I recall Southern Pacific kept the locomotive Firemen on through the 1960s and early 1970s until they reached retirement age. THey had two jobs. Start the Diesel engines in the morning and shut them down in the evening. No one else was allowed near the ignition buttons. Union deal with the RR. No Fireman in the cab meant a "Skelton Crew". Management called it "Featherbedding". It was an exciting debate to watch on TV in San Francisco.

Another beautiful Spring day here in Northern California. I feel like I'm finally getting my head above water following the hip replacement 7 weeks ago. Other than some soreness disrupting my sleep, I'm actually feeling normal. I eliminated smoking during that period, and finally over the last week been tasting some nice blends again. OK, I admit I snuck a couple of pipe fulls earlier when no one was looking.
