Ha! From Smokingpipes: "When the product becomes available, notifications will be sent in the order in which customers signed up for the alerts. Don't forget: this is a one-time alert. Once the product has come back in stock, you'll need to resubscribe for future notifications by repeating the steps above." Who new? Huh. I'd read that, but I thought the "one time" was actually sending you a notification, not them getting a supply and running out before they alert me. That seems goofy. Maybe we weren't high enough on the list. I'll check on the ones I had from last time.

Yeah, I was on one time alerts and never received an alert on Brown Bogie. Signed back up again as required: “ You are signed up to receive an email when we have this product back in stock!

My early TAD has me set for life. It's also good to see consistent G&H/SG shipments - I'm not too worried about not being able to get something before my current stock runs out. The only concern is our government shutting down internet sales.

If internet sales stopped tomorrow, you are screwed, and so are the distributors if you do not have that arrangement. Don’t play checkers when the anti’s are playing chess.

Many B&Ms charge double of what can be found online. I have enough tobacco to last until the end of my days but if I had to rely on B&Ms I'd give up smoking.

The B&M's around here that are known to carry pipe tobacco, Big Sticks, Hiland's Cigars, ye Old/ Stag are fairly priced. More expensive than online? Yes, but staffing, brick and mortar costs, and smoking lounges don't come free. I can only offer a sample of Hiland's prices as they do have an online presence in addition to being a brick and mortar, but their prices are pretty close to the other two stores with the same blends: hilandscigars.com/product-tag/pipe-tobacco/I think that is because these stores have enough traffic to be more competitive, another upside is that we have a great place to meet as a pipe club.

It's 45 minutes to the nearest shop and I'm fairly certain he doesn't work that way. I do a 1,200 mile cross-country drive every year and will try to figure out a few good shops along the way and just roll the dice each year. But as I said, I'm pretty much okay for a really long time - when my TAD flares up, it's all just for the fun of the chase.

“ Not where I live.”
I was speaking mostly to those that do have a decent local tobacconist that they can shop at. Certainly, if you live in a remote or sparsely populated area it isn’t happening.

Yeah, I thought that you raised a good point. I was just saying that for some a local tobacconist is not even an option. My earlier comments were geared towards local tobacconists that people could build a relationship that is productive for merchant and customer.

We have another tobacco order coming. Used mars cigars this time as they had a few c&d glp tins i wanted. Find i am having to order one or two tins of each desired blend from various retailers as no one is selling bulk tins. Is there really that much competition for 6 tins of blockade runner?. Instead i do one or two every other week which is more shipping charges which adds to the costs. But at least there ARE tins to be had so no complaints! Think i may have just bought a nice republic era special series barrel pipe with p-lip stem as well.

+1 for Mars. I can't recall the gentleman's name, but he's a pleasure to do business with. I discovered Mars only 6 or 8 years ago when I was actively stocking a lifetime cellar. He had 500g G&H ropes and plugs when no one else had any. They often had other hard to find stuff, too. I thought he was closing during some or other FDA nonsense, but is still there.

Just checked Mars stock for my favorites from Stokkebye (out of stock), GH/SG (out of stock), McConnell (no Scottish Cake) and Rattray's (only 50 gr tins of Marlin Flake and Old Gowrie. Appear to be well-stocked with C & D and GL Pease blends. Looks like the hard to get stuff is hard to get everywhere.

I've noticed that Mars seems to have better pricing than alot of places as well, at least on cobs and tins.

Decided to go back and complete the ensemble. I like all of my products to smell the same, because I'm weird like that.

My two tins of SG FVF arrived today. Unfortunately the vacuum sealed lid was compromised and both tins of tobacco completely dried out. Called my b&m and replacement tins on the way.
