Thanks, dark and Cramps. It's a bit heavy for my tastes, but still under 2oz.

Bag of coffee and 5 cigars from Ezra Zion. Joined their coffee and cigar of the month club on Wednesday evening. USPS announced that they were going to slow service recently. Less than three days from Dallas to SE Mich including processing at Ezra Zion. Good job, USPS and Ezra Zion!

November 7th. Oh joy! just snagged a lovely older Bertram small canadian without a grade number yet appears to be at least a 60. I like the lack of a grade stamp as it makes it extra funky. Also at the same time picked up another bertram grade 40 canadian to round out my mid-size bowls. Mr Steve Laug from rebornpipes.com has given me all my "work" pipes and I expect these two to perform well. All of the pipes I have gotten from him have been great, I love reading the repair blog and each of my pipes have a nice back story I think about during a bowl. These two are a bit special as they fufill a promise I made to have at least ONE bertram in my rack. I exceeded my PAD quota with two!! Anyhoo, I should have them both by next weekend and hope to post while having a bowl with each. If you have not been to rebornpipes I highly recommend you do, the blog has a wealth of information on repairing pipes, pipe history, and a great diversity of brands. I have spent all day reading about pipes on his blog and credit a lot of my current knowledge to him and his efforts to document and produce historical entries on pipes in general. Anyhoo,

^ Maybelater,
I couldn’t agree more about Steve Laug’s website. A true gentleman and great repairman, and he is committed to stopping sex trafficking and he backs it up with action.
I have one Bertram’s pipe and it is a great smoker!

November 7th. If anyone would like they can go to his blog and check out my bertram. It is the top/or near top now, entry on the blog. The 40 canadian is in the store's american section. Anyhoo, I am not here to promote or shill for Mr. Laug. He simply is the man who earned my business with his skills. The manner in which every pipe is offered is complete honesty.. this is the pipe, this is what was done. He really is the reason I look at estate pipes at all. normally we get so used to new pipes and never consider how a good briar can have a long life in one role and then have another totally different. Once I had a good fresh "old" briar I noticed that they all are proven smokers. No burnouts in a batch. they all burned for years yet held up. So as I moved along in assembling my rack I turned first to his selections with great success. He sold me my first P-lip and endured my questions as I got used to it..lol So as time has passed I have come to know a bit about the man which then becomes a thread in my own narrative in this hobby. But really, it WOULD be nice if everyone took the time to buy a pipe from him. he uses it for charity or to get more pipes to fix and our members (and lurkers) could make a nice man's life a bit easier while getting an expertly prepared pipe for the trouble. Anyhoo, with my tobacco order and two new pipes arriving, it is quite a red letter day!

So, the Dederichs is a handsome pipe, and feels lighter than it's listed, which is a good thing in my book. However, it has that whole fake shank ring thing going on. You know, where there appears to be a shank ring and all, but actually it's just a one-piece stem shaped to look like a stem and ring. I am not a fan of this practice.
It's my own fault for not noticing, though.

And it still has the same look when assembled. I think its a sharp pipe.
