Nothing. I checked the mailbox before I remembered it's a holiday. All that walking for nothing.

So, the Dederichs is a handsome pipe, and feels lighter than it's listed, which is a good thing in my book. However, it has that whole fake shank ring thing going on. You know, where there appears to be a shank ring and all, but actually it's just a one-piece stem shaped to look like a stem and ring. I am not a fan of this practice. It's my own fault for not noticing, though. You donβt like saddle stems? This is hurting my brain. How would you accomplish this look without the whole piece being integral to the stem?

I would categorize this as a TYPE of saddle stem, from a makerβs perspective. Instead of the usual swooping curve, itβs just cut flat. You canβt really engineer this exact look with a cap/stem combo. I mean, you COULD, but youβd have obviously material mating lines whichever way you went about it.

This is a note to say thank you peteguy ...... Why you might ask? Well...... He sent me four blends in these fancy silver packets and a cob.... Very nice in and of itself..... Then I looked at the writings on these packets and said peteguy has been paying attention to my posts... Watch City - Deluxe Crumb Cut.... . I have never tried this blends before or any from Watch City ( The last bit is quite sad actually ).... I have heard great things about this tobacco and will explore further. Gawith, Hoggarth & Co. - Black & Brown......I have never tried this one either, though I have heard good reports on this blend as well. Balkan Sasieni 1980s.. Balkan Sasieni is one of my go to Balkans, yet I have not had the pleasure of trying the 1980s version. Come to think of it, I have never smoked any tobacco with this amount of age (The oldest blends I have tried or owned are around 25 years.). This is awesome. McClelland - Blackwoods Flake..2008!! Ok..... I know the blend and believe I have smoked Blackwoods Flake before, though I am not 100% certain. In any case, I can say that the sample/tin I tried was not this well aged. Oh I have no doubt this will be another real treat, with the McClelland Virginias so ripe for the smoking.
And to top it all off a Cob, very nice touch and much appreciated along with the other samplers.
I am speechless...
Peteguy, I thank you for sending me not just tobacco but some real fine examples of excellent blends and the cob. They will be smoked with great pleasure.

I received my 7 day "smokable seconds" set from Missouri Meerschaum today, and am pretty happy. The set contained 2 straight and 2 bent legends, a bent pride, straight country gentleman, and a bent MacArthur. I would classify all but the the MacArthur as smokable. It will need some repair work, as the shank has a 1" split near the metal band. I think I should be able to glue and clamp it up and replace the band. The little devil cutty is also in the picture. Currently smoking some Watch City Slices in a pride cob as I look them over.

Very nice! I love that laser engraving on the bottom. Filter pipe? You are fast on the draw! before I could insert the measurements, I hit a pothole on the superinformation highwy, and had to reboot to do so.

My exact thoughts when Andrey Kharitonov first posted those. When he offered the stand for free with the set, I couldn't say no. The morta one represents not only my first pipe made of the material, but the first one that Andrey has ever made as well.
