I met a guy one time and he had a AM radio does that count. As true a story as most I read here.

$40K for a speaker. ONE speaker. I’ve always been fascinated by audio, audio gear, editing, etc. But I am so near deaf that it’s like a legless man wanting to be a highwire artist. Still, $40K for a single speaker seems... well, excessive. Perhaps Zuckerberg would like a few, if he doesn’t already have them. Maybe that’s why they have only two available. I’ve got a pipe buddy who sells high end audio systems to the 1%. He has clients who spend millions (couch change) a year on their handmade systems. Yup. The fantastically expensive stuff isn't going to appear on any website. Just the ridiculously expensive stuff. (I say that as somebody who has spent a fair few dollars on audio gear.)

I do get tired of being owned by so much stuff. 🙄🤔🤠 I hear ya. I feel a tiny bit of that, but not much, to be honest. I enjoy the things I own, but there's very, very few of them I couldn't walk away from in a heartbeat if I needed or even wanted to. I do feel the weight of maintenance and organization tasks, though. Mostly it's just feeling guilty about not doing them.

My collections are things that have come to me, rather than me looking for them...pipes are the exception, as I do hunt for them. But over the years I've found or been gifted things that have become collections. Records, from my love of smooth jazz ,and classic rock. Zippo lighters, some gifted, some from house cleanouts, Stamps, from a house cleanout, Old hand tools from just about everywhere. and a small collection of arrowheads.
too much stuff , but home is where you bring stuff!

Knives got left out, but my goodness I do have a thing for old style folders. Case, Old timer, and a few Rangers ,and Bucks and even some Barlows...always on the lookout for a solid pocket knife

Case, Old timer, and a few Rangers ,and Bucks and even some Barlows...always on the lookout for a solid pocket knife For my 15th birthday my uncle gave me a Camillus 3-blade Trapper, also called a Rancher. Lived in my pocket for years and still with me. Remember the days when every boy from 4th grade up had a folding knife in his pocket? We played mumble-de-peg at recess. I don’t remember a single incident of anybody getting cut or stabbed or even threatened with those ubiquitous knives.

Cammillus, oh my yes, I have a lovely ,pearl scaled jack knife from Cammillus, it's the only knife I display on my pipe shelf. Made in the days of prideful workmanship!

I am guilty of having those "I might need that someday" things. If Idon'tneeditin a yearit goesin a bin. IfIdon'tneeditin a year it goes in the proper receptacle. I hate having junk around.
But my wife...

My cousin work for a company that does high end stereo systems in California. Can confirm it’s a bit insane how much audio tech can go for seems sky’s the limit.

I grew up with those, too. Most everybody had an Old Timer. If you had a little more money, you might have a Case or a Barlow. When locking knives became a thing, though, I never really looked back. The gentleman folders have nostalgic appeal, but I don't much want to use one. I know they've incorporated locking mechanisms into some of them, but then they're not really the same knife anymore.
I've got a few thumb-openers, some flippers, etc. I much prefer those ergonomics. For my money, the Spyderco Dragonfly in ZDP-189 has about the highest utility-to-cost quotient on the market, for an office worker like me. Small, weighs dead flat nothing, doesn't scare anybody, and used just for typical office tasks, it will stay sharp for the term of your natural life. I've got one I've had more than 10 years, I think, and it still doesn't need sharpening.

You could meditate a long time sharpening ZDP-189. Coincidentally, I just a few minutes ago got done rubbing some compound onto a new strop block.

Nope. My lifestyle is entirely too mobile. I collected belt buckles and Louis Lamour books as a kid, but they’re all long gone. I have 8 pipes, 3 guns, 3 saddles, 4 knives and about 20 really, really goods books. I can’t claim to collect cigars either, for I consume them as I get ‘em.

The collector gene is alive and well here. I just added a great, very rare piece that‘s been on my radar for years to the collection yesterday. One thing about staying active, honest and known in the pipe community guys will offer up special pipes to a fellow collector before sending them off to dealers.
