Lately I've been watching murder mystery series from overseas. They tend to be quite intense and quite good. I'm guessing we get the best of the lot since they are trying to decide which to bring into the country for viewing. Here in the states we get them all. The good, the bad, and the much worse. I find them on Netflix and Amazon Prime.

Jungle Cruise (2021) - Little chemistry between the leads and the producers can't decide if their trying to remake the African Queen, Pirates of the Caribbean or The Mummy. You could lop off 20 minutes from the run time and lose little.
Free Guy (2021) - Ryan Reynolds plays Ryan Reynolds and Taiki Watiti chews his way through the scenery. The B-plot is meh but just enough jokes to keep it on the rails.
Don't Breathe 2 (2020) - The first one was better. It really seems as if they plotted the film in order to fit in a few cool scenes. It's probably a bit overedited.
Escape Room (2019) - By the numbers and could be better. Can't figure out a reason to care for any of the leads.
Zombie Apocalypse (2018) - Cash grab, avoid.

I mean Panavision westerns, and b/w Bogie movies, spaghetti westerns and John Wayne westerns. Okay, the spaghetti westerns were made after I was born, but you know what I mean.

Oh, and anything by Luc Besson. "Wasabi". French Detective (Jean Reno, aka, "Leon") on a case in Japan. All in French with subtitles. Great fun.

You do have to put up with a lot of not great films but some times you strike gold like the scene at the political rally in Judas and the Black Messiah.

Just finished up watching the Fear Street trilogy on Netflix with my daughter. Not bad, a lot of classic horror elements.

Witness for the Prosecution and Razors Edge. 9/10 and 7/10. Those are two of my favorites. "Razor's Edge" is fairly faithful to the novel by Maugham.

The Electric Mist, on Amazon Video, with Tommy Lee Jones and Buddy Guy. I'm a fan of Buddy Guy, and jones too...not a bad film, even if it was in color.

Loved Levon in the movie Shooter, Stephen Hunter book, named Point of Impact, renamed Shooter. That was also a great movie. Levon was often called upon when a credible Southern gentleman is called for. "Coal Miner's Daughter" being another one.

Runaway Train (1985) - Voight is good and Eric Roberts is great in their respective roles. For a disaster / action movie it's heavy on the philosophical angle. I can't imagine Cannon Films ever figured they'd make such a good film. Totally worth watching today.

I'll have to watch it sometime soon.

Avanti (1972) - Jack Lemmon is darn near insufferable and the 150 minute run time could really be cut down to 90 minutes. A few jokes you couldn't really get away with now about Mussolini, WWII, Sacco and Vanzetti, and women's lib (besides a Spiro Agnew joke, Nixon was surprisingly spared) but most don't really hold up anyway. Avoid.
Mannequin (1987) - Kim Catrall as a manic pixie dream statue. Not the smartest of teen movies but you can still see the appeal of the premise.
Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994) - Still a lovable and surprisingly tight film. Andie McDowell isn't given anywhere near enough to do in it.
