Avanti (1972) - Jack Lemmon is darn near insufferable and the 150 minute run time could really be cut down to 90 minutes. A few jokes you couldn't really get away with now about Mussolini, WWII, Sacco and Vanzetti, and women's lib (besides a Spiro Agnew joke, Nixon was surprisingly spared) but most don't really hold up anyway. Avoid. Mannequin (1987) - Kim Catrall as a manic pixie dream statue. Not the smartest of teen movies but you can still see the appeal of the premise. Four Weddings and a Funeral (1994) - Still a lovable and surprisingly tight film. Andie McDowell isn't given anywhere near enough to do in it. I agree on all points, except I LOVE young Kim Cattrall because she was just so damn cute! Still is just so damn cute.

Me and 10 high school buddies saw The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly at a drive-in in a VW bus. Tight quarters for an hour and a half. I guess things must have gotten pretty ugly. We didn't stay in the bus. We had lawn chairs and there were a lot of cars full of girls. Plus hanging out at the concessions. No way we could have stayed in the bus.

She claims she accepted the role to pay the rent not realizing the movie would be a mega hit. Who would have thought that??? Brilliant movie. She was just wonderful.

Who did you think they were, before? When I was younger I didn't think that way. I confess to carnal desires unmet when gazing upon young women in town. You see, we have many Texans visiting here. Texas, as most of you know except perhaps the most backwards Yankees, produces some fine looking young women. They appear in the stores and on the streets wearing what I would have considered underwear in my day. I make no remark nor do I act age inappropriately. Yes they are someone's daughter but they are still "Wimmen." The day I no longer notice or appreciate them is when the grass can be pulled up over my head.

Who did you think they were, before? When I was younger I didn't think that way. A lot of people seem be in the same boat. Like you can be desirable, or you can be somebody's daughter, but not both. But they're all both. I dunno. It's just a thing I notice about the way people talk about this stuff sometimes. We now return you to your regularly scheduled programming, already in progress.

Just watched "Lucky" with Harry Dean Stanton. Pretty good, but you probably have to be my age or older to get it.

Yup. If I'm checking out a movie and see Vera's in it, that's a point in its favor.

Watching this today, All Dracula stuff on Movies TV Network. Poor John Caradine. A little too much Ham to be taken seriously. Confined to "B" movies. I love the guy. See, "Mr. Moto's Last Warning". He took on the Dracula roles at Universal when Bella was too sick to carry on. My old mother told me of seeing him crossing the lobby of the Mark Hopkins Hotel in San Francisco in the early 1940s. A very Tony place. He had recently made one of the Universal Dracula movies. He was in full costume, cape and the whole nine yards. totally immersed in character. She got a big laugh out of that.

This weekend I will be watching the HP Lovecraft 2021 film festival. I would have loved to attend the live version in Portland last weekend, but Covid risk has stopped me from doing that at least this year. Hoping to get there in person next year. Glad they're doing a streaming version of the event this weekend.

We just watched Dune. Not as bad as I expected, in fact I'll give it 4 out of 5 stars. The acting is above average although the kid playing Paul was probably chosen for his woke pedigree he carries it off well. The main problem is that they haven't decided yet if they will make part 2, so it's a half movie, which knocks it to 2 stars. It looks like they busted the bank on effects.
