Well, looks like Tom had good tastes in pipes. I wonder if it was War Horse that did him in.

This has to be one of my favorite posts ever. Nice work Don. I am now off to abandon myself to the pleasures of tobacco, wasteth the midnight oil, quantities of Navy Flake, and myself simultaneously. May the Object of my Devotion be buried with me.

What they did not tell you is that Tom died at the age of 102, after living a long life full of happiness and enjoyment.
Damn tobacco Nazi's leave out all the important details.

Poor Tom as King Lear discovered, is like Peter Pan in his Tomfoolery, there is always a new story for his beloved Wendy in his pipedreams, a pure fool never dies, because he never lives. But it is not for every Tom , Dick or Harry, because his pipedreams are haunted by Pirate Captain Black & the Alli-Crocs & the ticking BOMB.

It was that Condor aftertaste that killed him, his heart broke when he realized his pipe would smell like that forever!

Great grandma smoked a pipe daily, lived till she was 93... Grandpa on the left, smoked a pipe daily, lived until 90... My dad didn't smoke a pipe, died in his mid sixties... I think I will keep smoking the pipe.

this is hilarious! I believe old Tom did everything right and I would prefer to burn like the tobacco in a pipe to smouldering away. Now back to wasting the midnight oil....

If I recall correctly, killikinnick was a mixture of tobacco and red willow bark smoked by Native Americans. It was the red willow bark that did him in.. DocAitch Addendum: After a quick google search, the NA name is kinnikinnick, and the red willow was actually red dogwood, but called red willow by the NAs. The inner bark was dried, toasted and powdered, often mixed with tobacco and other herbs. Many other herbs were used based on region.
