Do you guys dump open tins into ball jars? I finally got 12 8oz ball jars, but probably should have go 24. When I first got back into pipes I bought and opened a lot of tobacco, trying to find what I like. Bulk in zip locks seems to do okay. Tins with the metal lids seems to dry out quickly once open. Tins with the snap on plastic lids doesn't seem too bad. I've stopped opening new tins and will let them age while I smoke up what is open, which will take a while as I still smoke cigars more than my pipes.
So, should I just get jars for everything that is open? Do you jar open tins?

I'm lazy, especially with the ones with the plastic lids, they hold up for months, and I like my tobacco dry anyway. Bagged bulks I may jar, it depends on if I have any free jars at the time, or I bought a ton of it with the intention of jarring some up for later. Metal tins I just try to smoke fast enough that they don't have time to dry out too bad.

I jar open tins. I haven't had good luck with tins with plastic lids. Mine have dried out in a couple of weeks.
Bulk tobacco in zip-lock bags seems to do OK for quite a while, but some suppliers use better bags than others. All my favorite bulks are transferred to jars - sometimes to 2 jars. A large jar for the bulk of the tobacco, and a smaller one to load my pipe from.
I'd probably put everything in jars, except unopened tins, if I had the jars and the room for them. To save space, I've ordered Mylar zip-lock bags to store the rest of my bagged bulk tobacco. Most of it is just 2 oz sized.
Most of my jars are not canning jars, but jars with a with clamp lid. I buy them at Target and they are made in Italy. They are not as cheap as Ball jars, but they have a good seal.

Jar everything except what you are smoking...got some glass containers from Walmart that do just fine for the open tins.

If I wasn't so lazy I would jar all of my open tins, but alas... 😜

Round tins hold up well over the long haul, and are more valuable if you find yourself needing to sell them down the road.
Square/ rectangular tins are good for 5 years or so... much past that, you should vacuum seal them.
Mason jars are the most economical and safest way to seal bulk tobacco’s for long term storage. Some may have good lunch with bail type jars, but the simplicity of the threaded jar and new lid is hard to beat.
And, Mason jars are pretty cheap.

I was also wondering if cleaned peanut butter jars would work. If you wanted to go through the sterilization process and find new mason jar lids that fit, that may work. I would never trust the peanut butter lid though.

Everything I open goes into mason jars. Hence why at one point I had 60 jars! But now have learned to keep it at about 30. LOL
So unless your going to go through the tin quickly. I’d jar them up

I just stick with Mason jars for all my cellaring. Keeping it simple! And the lids are dirt cheap (discs with gaskets)...get a bit of tobacco on the seal, toss it.

I use Mason jars for storage. I use small Mason jars for smaller amounts that make my rotation. That way I am letting the bulk stay fresh.

If the gasket gets tobacco stuck on it. TOSS IT. I learned that the hard way. Luckily, only 4oz of Black House. Which was easily replaced.

That link really hits all my buttons lol. . But before I read that link I would have said Ball Jars! Actually going to pick up some lids after work today. Doesn't everyone have a box full of jars in the garage? I used to make a lot of homemade jelly and hot sauce, maybe it's just me.
