Red Sox pitching has crashed. They hosted a home run derby at Fenway on Sunday 18-4 win for the Jays. From today's Boston Globe:
"Red Sox starters have allowed 40 earned runs on 66 hits over 39 innings the last nine games, a period of time that roughly coincides with Major League Baseball leaking out the news that it would soon instruct umpires to crack down on pitchers putting illegal substances on the ball." You do the math. Yikes. Fingers crossed, but Bauer seems to be our only starter noticeably affected.

Dodgers won a squeaker last night, 3-1 over the Phils. First of a 3-game set. Gonsolin made his second start back from shoulder problems, and didn't look a whole lot better than his first start, which was not good. He wasn't terrible, obviously; the Phils only put up one run. But he was wild, had to work around a lot of traffic, and ran his pitch count up quickly. Got some help from the umpire, too.
If he doesn't start to pick it up, we may have to find a 5th starter at the trade deadline who can eat innings.

Dodgers lost the finale with the Phils, 2-0, but won the series. First time we've been shut out since Sept. of 2019. Zach Wheeler pitched well, but also we were playing almost none of our usual starters.

Shut outs hurt.
Red Sox took both Atlanta games, both 10-8. Pitching is still on the rocks, but Eovaldi and pen did well his last start. Christian Arroyo put in a game-winning, pinch hit grand slam last night, his first and season first for BOS.

Buehler took a no-hitter into the 8th, but lost it to the first hitter. He gave up another hit before being removed, and the mop-up reliever (we were up 9-0 at the time) allowed both of them to score, which was unfortunate, but it's a win. Final score 9-3.

The boys in blue are picking it up a bit. Took 3 of 4 from the Cubs, and just won the 1st of a quick 2-game series against the Giants. Just 2.5 games back of them, now.

Red Sox are back on top, with pitching starting to come back. Garrett Richards seemed to struggle the most without sticky stuff. He got clobbered by Royals the first couple innings last night, but hung in for a win. The kid's now throwing a 65mph curve. Weird stuff. The win felt good on the heels of sweeping the Yankees, which always feels good! Pivetta's on the mound tonight and he's been pretty solid.

Every time I see/hear a mention of Nick Pivetta, I start doing car commericals. "Come on down to Pivetta Toyota! And remember, we don't care about your credit, we care about you!" His name just sounds like it belongs on a car dealership.

I can relate. Austin Meadows always becomes Austin Powers in my head. And Fresh Prince Will Smith. Win over the Royals again, so we were up against Carlos Santana. Oye Como Va.

There are 2 Fresh Princes in the majors. The other one's a reliever with the Braves. He and ours faced off in the NLCS last year. Will Smith won.

Dodgers beat the Giants again last night, closing the gap to 1.5 games. I can smell first place from here!

Man, this Trevor Bauer thing is a cluster. I wasn't a fan when we signed him. Haven't become a fan since. Not likely to become a fan now.

Won a rain-shortened 5-inning affair in Washington last night. Max Muncy hit a monstrous grand slam. Giants lost. We're only half a game back.

Max Scherzer pretty well shut us down for 5 innings, but we ran his pitch count up and as soon as he left the game we pounced on their pen for 9 in a single inning. Depending on the outcome of the Giants game, we may be back in 1st place tonight!

Yup. The LADS are back on top in NL W. Sox are on top in AL E again. Rays have been faltering and Sox are on a roll, squeaking by for the win in the tenth last night in Oakland and finally getting a loss tonight to As in the 12th.

And we beat the Nats again in a rain-interrupted game. We're on a bit of a roll.
Did Keekay hit a dinger in that game?

Kiké has been knocking them out all week. He's back in the lead off and hit opening homers back to back nights. I don't think think he got one last night, though. He's made some important defensive plays, too. I hope he continues at this level.

Good to hear. He's a good kid. (I wouldn't really expect it to continue, though, unfortunately.)
Dodgers played this morning, but I haven't watched it yet and don't know the outcome.

Sox are in another nail-biter--a bit of a pitcher'a game.

That's baseball.
Boy, these West Coast games are for the birds. The 9:38 PM EST starts interfere with my beauty sleep. Sox @ Angels series starts tonight. The A's gave Sox a run for it, but they won 2 of 3.

Heh. Being a night owl, the Dodgers' late starts work well for me. It's when they're on the East Coast that the game times get problematic. I'm usually still working.
