Dear esteemed members, As a newbie, I am bound to run into a number of topics head first and this may be one of those moments yet I feel a small compulsion to engage. One of the benefits of being a group is the sway we may hold over certain areas of commerce. One consideration I find valid is the base promotion of our hobby. Currently to my observation, we trend to the esoteric. Social pleasantries, ongoing information exchange, and lifestyle topics are our stock and trade. So turning to my interogative I ask is there more we can do as a group? My vision is we send the best among us out to the information sphere to enhance and refine our presence and engage with others who are influential in those areas important to our interests. In short, we inhabit vendor forums, product reviews, craftsmen promotion, industry engagement. With a few links and a daily thread of the engagement program, would we not make strides in expanding our knowledge base? Possibly our numbers as well. Anyhoo, please consider the idea!

Yes, well... sounds like a campaign to me. Forgive me, but I'm pretty much off of campaigns right now. To each his own, but I think I'll sit on the deck, smoke a bowl or two, and watch the dogs do their doggy thing. Have at it if it fits your pistol. I wish you luck.

I think this is done at the (former-before Covid-19) pipe shows.

I've never considered smoking as a group activity or a hobby. More of something I do with alone time and yard work. I often have a pipe lit at my work desk as well.

I think this is done at the (former-before Covid-19) pipe shows. And pipe clubs interact with pipe makers, tobacco companies, and are well represented at the pipe shows. The Arizona pipe club is about as loose of a club as one could be. Others like Seattle Pipe club are involved in creating blends, The Greater Kansas City Pipe Club hosts their own pipe show, etc... Some look at pipe smoking as a solitary endeavor, and that is good. But there is nothing like the camaraderie of getting together with like minded individuals. I have smoked blends as a result that many will only read about. And had lengthy conversations with Greg Pease, Mike McNeil, Tonni Nielsen, Shane Ireland, Mark Ryan, Jiminks, and collectors with fine reputations and phenomenal collections like daveinlax. I do like my solitary time with the pipe, but always look forward to hanging with the rock stars that in another hobby or interest, would not be possible. “ Location: "The Lou" Not sure where that is at, but if you can be more specific, there might be clubs or groups that you can interact with.

"The Lou" Not sure where that is at, but if you can be more specific, there might be clubs or groups that you can interact with. The St Louis and The Viking Pipe Clubs are in The Lou. 🤓

Well there have been a few interesting points made on the topic. The "lou" is st.louis mo. And there are clubs i could attend but I am lazy so rather read posts and sometimes comment online usually while smoking a pipe. Admittedly in retrospect some of what I considered would be organic and prevalent in nature with the activity or idea being brought forth due to actual importance to the members in an upwelling of interest. The post topic put forth the idea of creating a momentum of group engagement for those people and things that are best serving our interests. I was curious to find out if that sort of cohesion was possible or desired. Plenty of worthy small craftsmen, aspiring blenders, who might benefit from promotion or engagement. As well as products and vendors from the commercial side. My rosy vision of a band of loosely associated internet denizens moving markets and spreading the gospel of pipe smoking to the masses made need a revision..lol.. Thanks for the replies so far and I hope more of you weigh in on the matter!
