I ordered a special dark sandblast to try out. I'm trying to cut down on the homeless pipe population. You're doing good and noble work sir

I visited their website and find interesting that they specialize in only one specific shape. Is there a particular reason to this? Back in October of 2019 as they were launching these pipes, one of the fellows involved was corresponding with me and had this to say….it may answer your question. “Final word about our pipes. I'm sure you know that the originals, the ones Crosby had access to, were not handmade, artisanal pipes. They go for hundreds on ebay due to their association with Crosby, their rarity and nothing more. You can find several artisans to make one for you. Again big bucks. We tried to come up with a re-issue that is, as was the original, reasonably priced. But in addition, we spent a lot of time on the design, sourcing old, dry wood and trying to insure a relatively turbulence free, open draw. Might well be an improvement on the original!” That squares with what I'd heard, which is that Bing didn't buy the originals because they were especially nice. He bought them because they were cheap, and he could clench one while swinging a golf club without it passing through his line of sight. Supposedly, he bought them by the case, used them hard, then threw or gave them away.

That’s the exact one I was after. Good on you.
As of this morning, they still had 8 in stock. Maybe you were looking at the wrong one?
My mistake - but not that particular one. I was actually looking for the standard dark smooth, not sandblasted.

Looks like all of the Standard sizes are cleared out. There are some Specials left though.

As an avid Underdog show fan, I figured Riff-raff got a bad rap.

There’s one up on FleaBay I see. (No affiliation). I know someone was still after one?

I've only seen one original Merchant Service pipe on FleaBay a while back. It went for some serious coin. Honestly, unless you're an avid collector and 'really' need to have an 'original' in your collection, the modern day Merchant Service pipe is going to fit the bill splendidly. There are a couple others out there making this shape which look really good too.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: I received an email saying the standard dark smooth was back in stock, quickly ordered (success), and got the confirmation email. I then went back on the site just to check it out again…sold out. From seeing the email to sold out probably spanned no more than five minutes.
Whew.
Now, I hope it’s all been worth it!

As of the time I'm posting this, there's a couple of different ones still available on their website standard and special.

This has to say something about the current popularity of pipe smoking. There are a lot of pipe makers, yet so many are in short supply.

Great Caesar's Ghost! I've been lusting after an MS pipe for about a year, but they were always out of stock. I put myself on the waitlist. I just checked my email again after maybe an hour, and there was the announcement I'd been waiting for. I shakily clicked the link on the one I wanted, and... Out of Stock. That's how that went. Anyone else experience this roller coaster today? I put a notifier on a specific style of pipe, and about 8 months later the notice came in and I ordered it with no problem. This was maybe 4 months ago. I got it within two weeks and have enjoyed it immensely. Not sure why they would send a notice and then not have it available.

I think it’s a combo of low supply and high demand. You just have to be there at the right time.

I got it in the mail and I can say I like it. It’s not the best piece of briar and there are a few nicks and scratches, but these days $100 is more or less a mid range pipe, so I’m not complaining. One thing I would point out is that I’m happy I got the Standard, because it’s already larger than most pipes that I like to smoke. Just a fair warning to those of you out there who maybe don’t want to swing around a golf club in your mouth. It’s very nice and smokes well right out of the box, and overall I’m happy. More or less I’m dedicating it to English blends (naturally), inaugurating it with Father Dempsey.

Mine's a cutty rather than a Bing, but it's Bing-like, and it does indeed smoke well.
