Yesterday afternoon I was sitting on my front porch smoking. There were a couple of carpenters working at a neighbor's house. They made a couple of comments that indicated they thought I was smoking marijuana. The pipe i was using was clearly a tobacco pipe (quarter bent Rhodesian). I forget what tobacco I was smoking, but I'm sure it didn't smell like weed. This made me wonder if my neighbors think I'm smoking marijuana, and also how many of the people who walk by think so. It's not a real big deal -- cannabis is legal in my state -- but it still bugs me. What really baffles me is how they could mistake an obvious tobacco pipe for a marijuana pipe.

Clearly uneducated, they are, in the way of the tobacco pipe, train the younglings, you must.

Yes ... they are obviously ignorant of both cultures to confuse them.

There are a lot of grown adults that during their entire existence have never seen anyone ever smoking anything but weed from a pipe...other than movies of course.
That would be a good opportunity to strike up a conversation and explain what pipe smoking is all about and the difference between pipes and cigarettes. It seems all of the pipe smokers I know, never have the insatiable craving for smoking like cigarette smokers do...there may be some, but they are in the minority. We generally smoke for pleasure, not habit, an important distinction to make to the ignorant.

A product of forming opinions from watching movies and tv. Once I was lunting around my neighborhood when the High School kids were walking to school. One gave me a look that said he couldn't believe I was smoking weed so clearly in the open (still illegal here). Passing little kids one asked me, 'Is that a pipe?' No, it's a clarinet you poor uneducated lout. Like Darin said, obviously ignorant of both cultures. PS Weed shops in legal states don't even sell wooden pipes anymore, they're all glass ones. I'm presuming it's to smoke the new form of weed, shatter, which looks like cooked down weed crack, or peanut brittle without the peanuts.

Maybe they were stoned?

I still have some from the 60s.

You don't often ask your neighbors for Doritos do you?
I don't often smoke in public, but when I do, I get "that look," at least briefly. Especially using a torch, nail, dabber, and glass oil rig. I'm kidding.

Imagine anyone not taking this vehicle as a delivery truck??? Does UPS have to explain what they are doing every time they deliver a package? Hmmmmm...... Maybe they do? Come to think of it there are many aromas one might be able to mask if the proper quantities are used.... Are you sure you are not smoking pot?

Recent MJ card carrying legal citizen in a medical use only state. Chronic pain and the stuff really does help. Played 36 hole golf tournament a few weeks ago. Couldn't even finish 18 before the medical card/medical state vote passed.
Try sprinkling some MJ in with your pipe tobacco. Bliss.......

Could be worse. I was mistaken for a marijuana grower/dealer once. At one time I grew orchids for a hobby. I had about 40 growing in a 12' x 12' room on the back corner of my house. The room was full of "grow lights". The lights would come on early in the morning and stay on 10 to 12 hours. One day I met an old friend and she asked me where I had moved to. I told her I still lived at the same place. She said that she'd heard that someone had a big marijuana production going on there! She said you could see the "grow lights" on before dawn and still on after dark.

I grew up in Humboldt and I am the only one I know that smokes tobacco in my pipe and my pipe is not made of glass. On a second note when someones says something to me about my pipe who looks the part I tell them. At least I don't light my pipe from the bottom. It has taken care of a few of those folks.

Weed laws are all over the place, not just by state but by city and county too.
Medical legal, recreational illegal, but cops won't arrest you in this town, traffic ticket over here, illegal but decriminalized over there, first offense misdemeanor but second offense felony over there, and all the while totally illegal under federal law. Then you've got even more laws about amounts, transportation and cultivation.
American Samoa is the place to go if you hate weed: medical, recreational, transportation and cultivation of any amount is a mandatory minimum of five years.
I think weed laws have kept as many people from smoking as prohibition kept from drinking.

I smoke hemp which will raise a few eyebrows if up wind of anyone. Smells like weed but get no buzz from it. It does relieve some of my arthritis pain and helps with the issues in my neck. I rarely take pills anymore because they were eating my stomach and only take them when it's really bad. If they legalize weed for recreational in Ohio I'll partake.

You can have up to a pound in your house. Smoking in public is a traffic ticket. It's legal in Michigan and you can get anything you want there. fyi

Guys... I'm changing the name of this thread. Mainly because I don't want to bring any heat on our forum because this thread title starts showing up in Goog searches. I knew a forum that was shut down for accusations that it was a bastion of illegal drug discussion.

You just have to use word switches when you're discussing it. For example, my "girls" have been kept in the loft under intense light for several months. Yesterday, I threw them into a period of darkness which I will keep them in for a couple days before I de-flower them.
Dang ... that sounds worse. 🤪😆

I partook regularly in the 60s and early 70s. And off and on since then. I believe that it is in all ways is better than alcohol. I now use CBD in several forms these days. Can't get anything here except for meth which I have zero interest in.

I had my card, but gave it up last year and let the card expire. It wasn't taking me in the direction I needed to be going in.

Charcoal air filters work wonders. But, here in AZ, there's no need to hide the perfume.
Times are changing. The brainwashing from our government is finally wearing off.
