The other day it was the first warm day of the year. I had a bowl of Elizabethan mixture which was great. I smoked on an empty stomach and afterwards I got the nic-sick.
I have NEVER experienced any effect of nicotine - I've noticed nothing as I've smoked, and I've smoked on an empty stomach for many times (perhaps not that blend, but many other heavy blends). Whatever it was, I felt awful. I was wild dizzy, I threw up and also nearly shat myself.
The end result is that it's kinda put me off the pipe.
Has anyone had this experience that has put you off your pipe? Could the tobacco have gone sour? I didn't notice any mould or anything like that...
Or am I just a baby?

Consider me jealous. The only time I've ever gotten a nic hit was from smoking four flakes of HH Rustica in a Dunhill magnum.

My dad and I once sat out on his back porch and smoked a Psycko 7 cigar. Afterwards, we both promptly lit cigarettes. About halfway through them, within a minute of each other, we were both ralphing off the porch.
Haven't had another one of those cigars since, though I don't blame the cigar. The heat, perhaps mild dehydration, the nicotine, all combined in a perfect storm. I like heavy nicotine, to the point of enjoying the dizzy feeling of going overboard. But when the nausea hits, I know I've gone a little too far.

Sounds like it grabbed you hard, brother! It can still happen to me now and then but requires a LOT of nicotine. Like Jason said, I flirt with the edge of that knife frequently but know when to quickly stop and even grab a bite of sugar if needed. Don't let it ruin the pipe for you but remember to be hydrated and fed prior to smoking a strong blend.

Read your second sentence.
NEVER.....smoke on an empty stomach. Before or when smoking, some candy, chocolate, fruit, a sweet beverage, ginger-ale, etc.... should be in your mouth to avoid, mitigate, reduce, eliminate, the spinning head and stomach.
A bad case of severe nic-hit almost sent me to the ER, before I realized it wasn't a heart attack. I was trying to lose some weight by dieting, and ate only a lite salad for lunch. Smoked my pipe an hour later....and BAM! Cold sweats, violent nausea, spinning head, the whole works.
Now, some chocolate, candy, and/or ginger-ale are my companions when my pipe gets lit. And, when I can, I brush my teeth immediately after smoking.
So far, so good.

I have had it happen only a handful of times in the past 10 or so years. Usually with a strong flake , and always on a hot day where I had not drank enough , or eaten enough. It is certainly no fun.

I've never gotten sick from a pipe, including Old Joe Krantz on an empty stomach. I rather enjoy the rare buzz. There might have been something else going on in your system. Give it a week and try again.

It's been a couple of weeks, but my desire has plummeted... I'll push through it though.
What others have described is what I felt, but it's one of the worst feelings.

A bit daunting to think we are just masking that effect with palliatives.

Not much to add other than agreeing that you should make sure you are hydrated and have food in the stomach.

This wasn't my first rodeo. Could be the heat, I'm not sure how the weather is there, but this week has brought some higher temps than we have seen so far this year, and that alone can add to feeling woozy. And although this next comment might not be agreeable to everyone, in my experience, sometimes it seems like my body knows better than my mind what's best for me.

Do you have a license for a shotgun or stash away a little secret after the North Ireland conflict?
Oh...... I get it ...Sorry....... I feel embarrassed..... “Shat” is otherwise known as the old number 2 in the states... What a sad state of affairs…. Still why would you do that? My kids could take a nic hit and their bowels would be just fine. I think you are being a bit of a baby Legend Lover . ...So suck it up fuzzball and eat something before you smoke . Q

It happens Paddy. Reminds me of the time I tried Nightcap for the first time. Even on a full stomach the nic hit was there. From that day forward, low and slow is the key. Lastly, whether you have an empty or full stomach, I’ve found a glass of milk on the side is an excellent remedy to any nic hit.

Sorry to hear and I echo the above as far as mitigation. AR least now you would recognize it sooner and put down the pipe for a bit. I normally smoke stronger tobaccos after dinner. I really like brown ropes and had some in the morning before lunch one time and never, ever again. They don't call it the velvet hammer for nothing. Luckily I was able to lie down at the time and doze a little while.

Elizabethan is a strong blend. Virginia and Perique. The presence of a decent dose of Perique only amplifies the effect of nicotine. Not one to smoke on an empty stomach.

I've never gotten full-on sick, but I got the spinning sweats, once. If I'd gotten up I probably would've gotten sick.
You may be put off for a good while. That's normal. Anytime something makes you vomit, your brain files that thing away as DO NOT DO AGAIN in very bright, bold red letters. (The current theory for what causes motion sickness, by the way, is that your eyes and inner ear are telling your brain you're moving, but your legs are telling it in no uncertain terms you are not. The only thing your brain knows of that causes that is when you've eaten something Very Bad, so it tells your stomach to empty itself with extreme prejudice.)
It'll pass in time. I'd just wait and let it.
If you feel you need to take stronger measures, I can provide my shipping address.

At least you didn't shat thy self. Write it off as a bad experience & try the above mentioned. I, too, am more sensitive to nic hits lately.Don't get it.

Dang! Cold, dude. Play nice with the preacher or you'll meet the Pale Rider! 😜🤠 I know the preacher man. He and I have a profound understanding of a particular peculiar sense of the giggles. PR ain't so bad if you know where you are going. Then again PR can be very bad if you know where you are going. It all depends on where you are going. In the words of the great Buckaroo Banzai "Hey Hey Hey now.... Don't be mean ....You don't have to be mean.....Cause remember no matter where you go......there you are" Humor can appear to be mean. However, appearances can be deceiving, that is if you are bros with an understanding, knowing the limits.... It is a guy thing. For example, with someone as thin skinned as Ronv69, I would never ever say anything quite like what I wrote to Legend Lover ..... ;-) lol For those of you who might get their panties in a bind ( This message is not meant for Ronv69 (who is not thin skinned, right Ronv69? ;-) ), Legend Lover and others as they understand.) , let me help ease your mind....

This wasn't my first rodeo. It might have been an imperceptible chemistry imbalance that the nicotine more potent. I have been there, and it can definitely do a number on you. I smoked brown Bogie and dipped Chimo one night, I don’t know what in the heck possessed me, but it definitely did a number on me.

I love the responses here...especially from good ol' qmechanics. I'm not sure the weather had anything to do with it. It barely gets over about 75 degrees (F) here in the summer, so I'm sure it's not that! I still haven't had the desire to have a pipe, though...Next sunny day I might force myself.

Holy cow, mate, you got hit real hard! My only truly bad experience with nicotine was with St Bruno Flake, in 1994. Back then, it was made by Gallagher's and it was a really strong tobacco. Unlike the Mac Baren version which, even though it's fairly good, is not like the original. For me, maybe that's a good thing. In any case, this was the only time I had to stop smoking because there was a sea state level 12 that was starting to form into my stomach. For those wondering, no, I did not continue nor did I finish the pouch.

But does it feel warm to you? That's arguably more important than the actual temperature. True...it DOES feel warm to me. You need to come to Arizona, we are averaging 117 degrees this week. Drop some Chimo under the tongue, smoke some Brown Bogie, and get the man-card repunched, Paddy! J/k if you make it out here we will serve you southwestern fare and some grand barbecued Brisket. Bullets will bounce off your chest.
