Some folks just can't call you by name; and sometimes, even if they do, they change it up a bit. My Dad was Herbert also, and I grew up as "Herbert Jr" man! that still makes my face red...then there was Little Herb ,from my Uncles, and Junnie, from my Dad's best friend...Herb was my name for fifty years in the workplace. I purchased my first house, for Ma and me, at age twenty-two, and all my pals started calling me Big Daddy, or big dad. think about it...how many for you?

Oh...for a while, in the workplace ,the gals called me Herbie or even sweetie, and there was even a little blond who called me Daddy. But now if I get called in time for supper I'm happy!

I've never really had a nickname. Nothing ever fit. One co-worker called me Poindexter for a few weeks.

All my life I've only had a single nick. (That I KNEW of anyway!) My dad always called me "Beau." I don't think it was a value judgment, just something pretty common from his own childhood. Otherwise "Bob" always filled the bill.

50 years ago friends called me "Bugs". My last name is French for "rabbit".
When I had long hair and a beard while working in construction back in '69, some of the old carpenters called me "Santeee Claws".

I had a bunch in the Army, because no one likes trying to pronounce my last name. There was J, Ski, at one point an entire platoon referred to me as J-Rock, it goes on and on.

When I was still back in my youthful salad days, and still skinny....some of my friends called me "Soup-Bone". Time passes quickly but the extra weight, lingers.
Now...I can't even look in a mirror, nor, do I want to. I should really have four hoofs.

When we lived in Germany, there were ToTo stands...that is what we called them. A kid could buy beer or candy or any number of things. I was always chomping at the bit when dad handed me the marks, so I was called TOTO, by our German maid/nanny and my siblings caught on.
I went on to found a great rock band by the same name.
Most of this is true...

Spook. Born two weeks before Halloween. Older siblings thought they were funny. It stuck with me pretty much through high school.

Sometimes I am called "Mayordomo" which is my job title in NM Spanish. Pronounced "Ma your dome oh". Some address me as "Your Mayordomoness" or "Mister Mayor".
But you can call me "Bill".

I've had a few nick names and I honestly can't think of one I'd wish known. Not that any were embarrassing, except one but, none that I would like known because of identity issues and what they connected me with. But, when I was leased to Coca Cola pulling their tankers to Tucson my CB handle was Coca Cola Cowboy.
