Got a line on a ripe corpse? I’m assuming you’re referring to the artifact recovered from the ancient bog body.

Okay. I was an adult when this took off with the kids. I am from a Pong, Pacman, Centipede, Asteroids, era. I was playing table stakes poker long before any of it. LOL!

Ok, it sounds like we're all in agreement, we're starting a Patch campaign, Hand of Glory is DM. In. Me, too, but only if it's 1st or 3rd edition. This is a tougher question than I'd like it to be. At this moment, I'll say a partially-rusticated briar Lovat with the bowl 1.5" high and an inside diameter of .75" (I like to get my index finger in the bowl when cleaning it out), a ferrule of elephant ivory and the stem made of amber. Chances are johnlawitzke already has one...

I have alot of 0.75” x 1.5” chambers, a few with amber acrylic stems, several saddle stem Billiards but no Lovats and no elephant ivory adornments. Yes, you probably find it hard to believe, but something about the short saddle stem on most Lovats turns me off. I’d rather have Liverpool.

True, 4th was a mess, but in truth, 5th isn't bad. Basically all power has been returned to the DM in favor of house rules games.
I do miss THACO though...

I used to look at them and wonder why on Earth anyone would want such an ugly, weird looking pipe. I still think Lovats look weird, but I can't deny that I've an easier time keeping it in place than a Liverpool. Recognizing their beauty became an acquired thing once I came to appreciate their comfort and functionality. My 2 favorite pipes are both Lovats. Like fountain pens, there seems to be enough variety and artistry in the different pipe styles and materials to appeal to just about every one. Surely the number of us who have a "grail" pipe isn't smaller than the number of pipe smokers who weighed in on their AD&D preferences! I'm interested in hearing what some other folks would like if they could have any pipe made for them.

The lovat is my favorite shape. But I never claimed not to be weird.

Meerschaum poker with a green swirl acrylic stem. With a decent bowl depth. Like 2 inches or something.

The lovat is my favorite shape. But I never claimed not to be weird. My only lovat is a birth year Dunhill given to me by a forum friend. I love-it! 😁

I have a long drive each morning and afternoon, I smoke my pipe in the car during this time. It helps me get calm before and after work. I usually use my Moonshine Pot Still, but the bowl is so shallow That pipe is really meant for a quick smoke or a walk, but it’s easy to clench. My other pipes are much longer and become unwieldly while driving. I’ll have to look into a lovat, it sounds like nice middle ground.

Humorously, this is pretty much exactly how and when I smoke my pipes as well, and I have great luck with lovats, or close variations. Personally, I like the short saddle stem, long shank combination.

Personally, I like the short saddle stem, long shank combination. I don't smoke in the house or car, but I do when I'm outside. Lately I've been outside a lot. The Lovat is easy to clench and hold in place whether I'm on the tractor, the Dixie Chopper, or just stomping around chainsawing trees. When I first started smoking a pipe, I gravitated towards bent apples because I thought they would do the trick. The Lovats actually stay in my mouth easier and more comfortably.

65 million year-old amber? Containing mosquitoes? I can't believe I didn't see this until just now! I'll take amber with no bugs in it. But if there were, a little spider would be cool. Had I gone into entomology and genetics rather than education and theology, I would be working ceaselessly on breeding tarantulas the size of timber wolves.
