Let's say this: you're off work, the kids and wife are away. You take the train to a little coastal village that hardly deserves the name, find an empty spot of beach, and lay back in the sand, planning nothing, just enjoying the day. What do you have with you? (I forgot my pipe tool, but I'm not retaking the picture. I guess I'd use a bit of driftwood or something..)

I don't care for the beach. Too much sand. This is what I have in my pockets on a typical working day - except, of course, for the phone I used to snap this photo.

Not much in the pockets. And an Iphone 11 pro Max. I was an infantry rifleman in the Marine Corps and then a Houston Police officer for a few years. Living in Texas, I always had a weapon on my hip and long arms in the house. It feels very strange now that I'm living in the UK to not even have a home defense weapon. My dad, a 30+ year veteran of the force, is hesitant to even visit because he can't carry here.

That pretty much guides where I go also, I have no desire to visit states that restrict RTKBA.

My dad, a 30+ year veteran of the force, is hesitant to even visit because he can't carry here. I moved to the UK from Los Angeles in 1989. Yes, being weaponless and living in north London was not comfortable. I acquired a Wilkinson Officer's sword (Field grade) and made in 1914. I trained in fencing as a youth, both Foil and Saber. While I might not win trophies, I was comfortable with a long blade. It was my bedside companion at home. Sure enough, the house next door was burgled by a perp with a knife. While he was ransacking the house, the Poh-Lease arrived in the form of a pimply faced youth of about 19 armed with a short flashlight, a Constable's Helmet, a uniform shirt and pants. He was wearing Doc Martin's on his feet which was the most intelligent thing about him. He decided to wait until the burglar had finished and exited before he would enter the house. Not being my business, I did not intervene. However, had it been my house, the outcome would have been different.

I got mine sharp as a razor blade.

I don't carry a lot with me. Took this shot today, but seem to have left out the Zippo. Only other items are my car and house keys, with a small flashlight on the keychain. If I'm hiking out in the woods (greater chance than going to a beach), I'll have a small pack with a few more items on me.

Bingo!
The Overlook hotel in Sidewinder Co., is the name of the hotel in The Shining. I am guessing that room 237 was Jack’s room.

Bingo! The Overlook hotel in Sidewinder Co., is the name of the hotel in The Shining. I am guessing that room 237 was Jack’s room. You're close. Room 237 was the one where most of the poltergeist activity took place. It's the one Danny was specifically warned to avoid, where the corpse lady made out with Jack, and (I think) where the previous caretaker had slaughtered his family. I use the key fob for my school keys. It's big enough that I don't misplace it. Since I'm explaining my stuff, I'll go ahead and give you more information you didn't ask for The leather pocket notebook does triple duty as calendar, notebook, and wallet. The chaplet was a birthday present from a Roman Catholic pen pal, and she had it blessed by an actual exorcist, FWIW. The pocket watch was a present from my wife and kids. I keep a photo of The Princess in it. The fountain pen is a 101 year-old Waterman Ideal 55 that I had restored by Ron Zorn. It writes like a dream. If you ever need a pen repaired, Ron is the guy. The chalk holder is obvious: I'm a holdout and refuse to replace my beloved chalkboard with a whiteboard. Much to my students' amusement, I can't ever remember which pocket it's in, and end up slapping & putting my hands in all of my available pockets until I finally locate it. I used to carry a CRKT liner lock, but I discovered that the blade on a wine key works well enough for anything I'd have used the pocket knife for, and it's a lot more practical. My friends and family are more likely to ask for a corkscrew or bottle opener than they are to ask for a knife.

We bought my Irish mother in law a Rosary in Ireland and had it blessed by an Irish priest. It didn't help.

Nice. I have a motel style key chain for my studio keys. Not quite as cool as the Shining; it's from the band "They Might Be Giants". I noticed the chaplet, although always heard them refereed to as paternosters.
