When we backfilled a trench with sand on constriction projects, it had a 90% or so compaction rate, and required less on or part of compaction to make the city inspector happy. Wet sand in a trench really made a hard footpath.

Back in Southern Arizona, it was a beautiful day but nary a chance to pull over to take pictures. Before rolling into Tombstone, I saw a passing cloudburst and found a wide spot in the road, washing the boardwalks though.

I love that season. Dec, Jan, Feb, are great times to barbecue and sit around the fire pit at night chasing off the 55 degree chill.

I paid my dues, bro. My last really nasty winter was -50 below with the wind chill in Colorado. With all the broken bones I sustained, and the encroaching friend that is sure to pay a visit named Arthur Itis, I best stay in the southwest.

A bad time to be in Baja, but if it hits Arizona, it will be as significant as a fart in a tornado.
That will not stop the local media from fretting and strapping on the depends undergarments though….they tend to follow the media in NYC in that regard, every storm is a storm of the century.

Down here storms are a fact of life. Mostly we just roll with it. Of course it takes more than a half inch of rain to wash cars away.

If we get heavy rains here, they typically dissipate quickly. The fire stricken areas like Flagstaff that Darin posted are an anomaly for the most part… not to minimize the flooding, it is what it is, but the fires remove the brush that make it exceedingly worse.
Down in the Phoenix area, most of the problems happen by people thinking “ I can make it through that wash!”
If they gave it an hour or two and waited it out, they would not end up on Mister Toad’s wild ride.
The long living locals get it, but the people that move in that cannot miss an episode of keeping up with the Kardashian’s require the sheriff department to deploy rescue teams.
Joe Arpaio was able to get the “Stupid motorist law” passed that educated stupid people and held them accountable. The current Maricopa Sheriff thinks that uncompassionate, so we end up with more stupid people.

I'm afraid we're about to lose old Joe. They don't make them like him anymore.
