Tonight, I got a very "vocal" email from someone that attempted to register for The Briar Patch and was actually rejected by our spam filters. Amazing how a machine figured out this guy was a tool, and probably did a better job than me. Let me share his email to me... and my response. The names have been changed to protect the morons.
I can't make this shite up.

Keep your forum, Adolf. Your loss. No wonder you have to beg for donations on your page. You shitty attitude runs away people who would be productive and contributing members to your forum.

What's interesting is, your account was rejected automatically by our spam filter because your IP address showed multiple accounts created recently, with different usernames for multiple sites. I just haven't had a chance to review the rejections and manually approve those that were false positives.
Good thing for those spam filters though, because they obviously saw more than I did. With an attitude like yours, I wouldn't want you as a member of this forum anyway.
Oh, and I don't have to beg for donations. This site will run whether people donate or not, this community requested that they have the ability to contribute.

For those that may not know the history of the forum....
I have been through the journey with Justin, he has seen the pitfalls that have put pipe smoking forums on the ash bin of history and is committed to not letting that happen to this forum. Admittedly, I have stepped over the line more than once and the gentle rebuke that is exercised on the forum is a reminder that we dare not stray off course too much, or we will also end up in that ash bin.
There is no better pipe smoking moderated forum, and the individual members using restraint and camaraderie are worth recognition in that regard.

This guy just doesn't know when to quit. I do enjoy this sort of banter from time to time... but have now grown tired of it, lol. For the record, I have decided not to protect the names of the morons anymore, just to ensure that none of you have to encounter this guy on your own.

That stands to reason when I use Windscribe VPN. They probably have 30,000 customers so the odds of you having multiple sign ups from the same IP with different user names, etc. are quite good.
Sometime you have to be able to think smarter than a door knob. Good luck with your piss-poor forum management skills. Sorry you take constructive criticism as a character fault. I wouldn't want to be a member of a forum that has an admin with his head so far up his arse.

can't disagree with any of the above. All know I am lost with all the techie-talk part but glad the filters are in place. I can still read the entries at PM, check once a week or so, but no way gonna apply to join same as whoever runs the place changes passwords on regular basis...I'd run out of paper/pencil doing so. LOL! Keep on keepin' on Justin & mods just the way you do things. Hope I've never gotten "out of line" with anybody or anything. Guess would be a good commie, accept as is

Counter-productive to the initial goal of becoming a member, but he outs himself as a person that no forum admin would want to be on the roster.

You know, in other forums (and even subreddits) in which I've been a long time contributor, I've considered moderating. Stuff like this makes me happy I never accepted the roles. How maddening. Good on for you for somehow remaining civil. Out of spite I would've anonymously reported him to Interpol for human trafficking or something. Thanks for running interference Justin! It's like I was telling a young protege at work the other day. He's got a beautiful girlfriend, soon to be fiance, and it bugs him when other guys look at her. I told him he was going to have to get over that or be miserable for the next 20 years, and probably make her miserable. That's no way to live. If he couldn't deal with the fact she's beautiful, he needed to let her go find somebody who could, and marry a less attractive girl. |
