Any of you guys enjoy the rowing sports? Just came in off the lake after a three hour row. Pretty tired. Windy today. Was hoping to spot an otter family that I know is in the area. No luck. I did get thumped by probably a beaver or otter though. I was sitting motionless on a glassy surface and something big smacked the bottom of my kayak. Couldn’t see anything in the water, but it was pretty cool.

I used to teach canoeing and rowing at summer camp as an Explorer Scout. My buddy and I could pull a water skier with a rowboat. I loved it. MMybback is so shot now that I can't even think about it. I've also rafted most of the whitewater in Texas, which I know isn't a big deal but it was fun nonetheless.

I wouldn’t mind going on a rafting trip and doing the rowing necessary, but as for kayaking after two shoulder surgeries, I am taking it easy on the shoulders.

Most Grand Canyon raft trips are on huge rafts. There are plenty of nice rivers that you could do yourself. I have a cousin who used to guide rafts on the Animas in the summer and the Rio Grande in the winter. I can't suggest the Rio Grande at this time, although Boquias and Santa Elana canyons are beautiful.

I went on the north fork of the American river in California some years back, it was a lot of fun… hairy at times.

Done some rafting in Montana and Washington, but I've done a lot of kayaking and especially canoeing. I'll bet you couldn't name a river or creek in northern IL I didn't splash a canoe in, back when I lived there. Having fetched up on the Puget Sound, I've done some kayak touring here and intend to build a cedar strip canoe some day. We'll see if it ever happens. 😁

I've never canoed, but I'm so inflexible, I find that sitting down with my legs out is really uncomfortable. I would LOVE to do white-water rafting some day. It's on my bucket list.

Not much for white water rafting but canoeing on a lake or bay is a grat pleasure to me. I have a hybrid canoe/kayak. Seat two and is made for ocean paddling. I took it off shore the Carolinas but spent most of the time on the intercoastal waterway, estuaries and such.
We just do not have lakes here worthy of the name so I have not used it here. Someday, a trip to big water?

Rafted the Animas River in Durango a few times. As far as my kayaking, it is strictly on lakes. We have a couple of 14’ boats that we use for that. They can haul enough gear to spend a week out in. I also have a little 10’ boat for fishing. Did a little canoeing in Scouts. I prefer kayaking now.

Rafted the Animas River in Durango a few times. We spent a few days on vacation around Durango a couple of weeks ago and saw all the raft/kayak outfitters but it must be the wrong time of year and we didn’t see anybody on the water but anglers. I’m to big and stiff to canoe anymore but we live on the water and Mrslax is a paddle sport enthusiast and she’s out paddling almost every day. While I spend my time on pipe boards and collecting pipes she’s on paddle sites and buying kayak gear!
