Tobacco from an unmarked jar, dark and heavy with perique, it likely started out as Rattray's Black Stoved...I had a friend, years ago, who would send me that stuff twice a year. It was a study diet for him, and he wanted me to love it as well. I wasn't a big fan of it, but perique changes it into something I can enjoy...I'm almost sure that's what I have smoldering in my Diplomat...SO- black stoved Virginia with perique, chased with strong coffee!!!

Cool, sunny and breezy in my part of the world this morning. So, I started the day with Haunted Bookshop in the Monday cob and coffee in the cave and workshop.

Grabbing my coffee and a cob that I worked on this weekend. Filling it with Sutliff Ready Rubbed and heading to the back porch for some sun.

Finally sitting down to Exhausted Rooster after a rough morning! Shortly after my second sip of coffee my dad’s LTC facility called notifying us that had had another fall and was sent to the hospital for follow up. As most of you know, from my previous posts, he has Parkinson’s and dementia. Long story short: he’s recuperating, under observation and suspect the hospital will release him around dinner time. Not exactly the quiet Monday morning I was hoping for.

October 18th. The temperatures are slowing getting colder. But today was a nice warm up. The morning bowl was blockade runner in the old castello sc23 apple. This blend has been rotated in to the main position meaning I got 4 2oz tins and an 8oz can to work through. I enjoy it but I think glp Navigator takes the top spot for that style blend so out with BR and in with Navigator...(nice 8oz can resting in the vault.. . As temps are mild and winds are calm I managed a stop at the cigar store in cottelville mo. Aiellos has a decent humidor, whiskey rack, and even three full bacchi ball courts. They are THE Padron dealer in the area so I get the 1964 26th anniversay in natural from them as finances allow. I find a cigar from time to time is a good change from my pipes and can give my tastebuds a rest allowing the pipe blends to perk up on the palette next time I have a bowl. Unfortunately I am not a wealthy man so cigars have taken a backseat to pipes over the years. They are not well suited to all seasons anyway. The pipes shine in cooler dry weather while the cigars need a warm humid day thus regulating them to the occasional use catagory I do credit cigars as being the critical step to pipe enjoyment for during my coming away from cigarettes they spanned the time I needed to learn and apreciate pipes. hope all are well and having a good bowl or cigar at the time of reading this post!
