Have smoked C&D 2016 Haunted Bookshop in a Kaywoodie Saxon sandblasted panel, John Marr in an MM 3/4 General bowl cob with the short shank and blue/white acrylic swirled stem, and smoking more Burley Flake #1 in an MM Mark Twain cob now. About to smoke some Riverboat Gambler in an MM Rob Roy Legend cob. Doing some after-hours load balancer migrations for work.

October 6th. Hats off to tobaccopipes.com for amazingly fast shipping which delivered my order yesterday! I picked up two 8oz of mississippi mud(c&d) and glp navigator AND one tin of escudo. the cans go in the vault with my other bulk cans and bags and the escudo was decanted out of the tin into a mason jar lastnight. This morning I pulled two coins out and loaded the petersons x105 newgrange spigot. I have had a love/less love relationship with escudo for years. had my first bowl of it decades ago. But my lack of skill in preparing and loading the blend always have bad results..mostly a wet, hot, burn that destroyed the flavor profile. Now I always felt there was a good bowl to had with the blend but as I just could not make it work for me so the blend was forgotten. To insure free shipping on my last order I needed an extra purchase so I went with a tin of escudo. Now my skills are improved and I have some excellent pipes it was time to revisit Escudo.! I must say what a difference in the blend. Managing to keep the flavor flowing deep into a bowl gives escudo a new lease on life. This all shines a light on an issue for hard to burn blends needing some pipe skills to enjoy. Decanting tobaccos from tins to jars is the first important task. then proper loading with an eye to prevent tight packing. water comes off some blends more than others and escudo seems to run damp making the matter worse. So with more time in the jar I expect many good bowl to come! anyhoo, hope everyone one is well and enjoying a favorite pipe at the time of reading this post!

So with more time in the jar I expect many good bowl to come! anyhoo, hope everyone one is well and enjoying a favorite pipe at the time of reading this post! Most tobaccos come loaded with moisture to aid in their marrying/production processes, and to provide moisture purposely for their fermentation and tin aging. With Escudo the coins come with a very high moisture content. It sounds like you are not rubbing the tobacco fully and giving the tobacco ample time sitting out drying. In my opinion this is one of the most important factors in pipe smoking that is clearly not discussed enough, or clearly instructed by the manufacturers themselves and I really believe it's step #1 that should be written right there on the tins. Rub the tobaccos, and dry them until nearly crispy. When you pinch the ribbons, they should not be able to bunch up and stick together. If the tobacco sticks together, it is too moist to smoke in a pipe. Dry it for 20-30 minutes and in some cases tobaccos really need to dry out for 1-2 hours. There is simply no reason to smoke wet tobacco but sadly, this is not clearly conveyed to the smoker. Tobacco was almost all sold properly dry before the tinning process came along and before aging was a thing. The native Americans smoked bone dry, powdered tobacco.

I'm smoking two pipes at once, as I'm wont to do from time to time. I actually used to have an experimental habit of pack 4-5 pipes at once and smoking them all at once, like some mad man out of Reefer Madness, or some 30's black and white chain smoking scene where you see the guy smoking 10 cigarettes at once frantically. Not that I will literally hold all 5 pipes and keep them all lit at once, but in flavor profile experiments I've done where I'm picking out flavors from latakia, then I want to go right to a lit pipe of an aromatic for 5-10 minutes, and then to a burley blend.
Anyway, in this photo here and when I hold two pipes at once with one hand I'm often smoking them both lit at once. This is Eight State Burley and Scarecrow back and forth here. I've not smoked the new Let Freedom Ring 5th Ave cob yet as that will likely need a staple blend to break it. It smells like stain pretty heavily, but it looks sweet!

Newminster Superior slices from 2015 in a golf ball textured Meerschaum from long ago. It has been forever ago since I smoked this pipe, put back in a drawer...don't know why, it is a great smoker. This blend is kind of reminiscent of Stokkebye Bullseye flake when new, but the difference is that instead of a Cavendish center, it is dark fired Kentucky. As it ages, the black grows... Fresh: Great smoke! www.tobaccoreviews.com/blend/5264/newminster-no-403-superior-round-slices
