Over on Daily Chronicle I posted a recent portrait of my nearest neighbor (I'll repost it here) and then thought I'd share a few more of them. I feel good looking at them as they give me hope for my country. Maybe they can do the same for others. At least I hope they are enjoyed. (As explanation, I have worked on documentary projects in several areas of the country as well as abroad. That's how these came about, although they are ALSO my real neighbors.) I would love to see this thread include YOUR neighbors, too. Please don't be shy. Share 'em!)

City dwellers here. Guy on one side has cut our grass ever since his wife mentioned "will give that fatso a little more exercise". On other side, a rental but a really cool collection of black/Hispanic folks who work for the owner. We all friendly but don't party together, either side. Just good folks
Ed Duncan, Batavia, NY Friendly type, me, but definitely no way camera friendly

Looks like the kind that’ll help you. That's a way of life out here. You need 'em, they're there. I'm sure you know all about that.

Got a Mexican fellow behind me that rebuilt a run down broken roof house...did it all by himself and did a hell of a job. I helped him out by having some of the trees removed that were threatening his new roof. No pics. Folks to the left of me are renters and are quiet as church mice...they moved there because our lil hidden spot is cemetery quiet. no pics either. On the right side of my property is an old lady whose son is our handyman and he can do about anything that needs doing. no pics They all are salt of the earth folks and we are blessed to have them as neighbors...they love the peace and quiet as we do.

No pics? Have you tried? Or maybe you just don't care. That's OK. (I'd gladly swap 15 or so millyuns of some of our citizens for the same number of hard-working Mexican folks.)

You got that right...they have a bit of pride in their work. Had a friend of a friend dig an 18" trench 145 feet and it looked as though I had used a backhoe...straight sides and perfect (had to bury a water line). Wife had to come out and watch him work, she said it was entertainment to watch some one with his skills and ability do a job. I was happy to pay him twice what he was asking for.

The only pictures I would be able to post of my old neighbors would be the game cam shots of the kids scratching the car, writing on the car, letting the air out of the tires and trying to break into the car.

If we were still back in the 80’s I could show some really interesting pictures. Four of my neighbors were models for Ujena swimwear company, an offshoot of Runner’s world where my wife worked.
My neighbors are a lot less interesting now. garden variety suburban dwellers.

A man who has seen the horrors of war, the evil of men and he survived it all. The cross he wears tells of his faith in something other than man.

A lot of bond forfeiture going on there.
RonDawg the bounty Hunter?
It pays well.
Winkleman should have just done his time for pot possession, a stupid thing to be on the run for.

A lot of bond forfeiture going on there. RonDawg the bounty Hunter? It pays well. They mostly aren't dangerous and they can just move on to the next county or across the state line since they don't have many ties to Cass county. It's only 25 miles to 2 other states.

Grandpa Valdemar has many stories to tell about the Philippines and his POW years. Not all of them bad.
Being a puny sized Hispano/Indio he did not fit the Japanese soldier's view of their American enemy. While he could handle a Springfield '03, he did not seem particularly menacing or his presence insulting to his Japanese captors. So, they were a bit easier on him than the John Wayne types. He told me that one Japanese guard used to talk with him to practice English and Spanish (still spoken in the Philippines back then). One day the Guard asked him if he knew "The Stooges"? Apparently, Three Stooges serials played in Japan before the War and were quite popular. Slapstick humor was unknown to the Japanese and met with great enjoyment. Valdemar caught on to an "opportunity" and told the guard that he and Curly were old friends. He made up many stories to tell the guard who listened with pleasure, offered Val extra food and avoided physical punishment. Much better than being used for bayonet practice, eh?

It is hard not to appear menacing in mug shot photos. The police must take a course on how to fug up photos! Some real hard cases there. LOL! DWI and Probation Violation! Marijuana Possession!! Talking out of turn and failure to Yield Right of Way?

There have been a couple sent to the Walls with a one-way ticket to ride the lightning in the past 5 years, but they weren't native to Cass County. They just chose the wrong place to be bad.

Sometimes at a branding a bunch of moms and calves will decide they aren't having any fun and make a break for it. Then a posse of neighbors has to bring 'em back. (I don't think the neighbors mind too much as it brings some extra excitement to a busy day.)
