Hello all,
Rich here. I'm a librarian, sometime writer, and quondam amateur musician and songwriter (but no time for that these days) in Chicago; not forgetting a dad times 5 and a grandpa times 4 so far.
I'm 71, still on the right side of the grass, starting to play around with the thought of retiring but not ready yet. I picked up my first pipes in college in 1971 (and still have two of those first three), so I've been puffing away for a long time. I've been a member of Smokers Forums for fifteen years or more, but that venerable forum is closing its doors at the end of the month. Two respected members there (Lord Guyrox and lestrout) have recommended the Briar Patch, and I'm happy to have found my way here.
Looking forward to getting acquainted and talking about pipes, tobacco, and life in general.

Welcome to the forum from Arizona. We have three or four Chicagoans on the forum now, maybe you guys can get together for a smoke. It might be difficult. I've been on the forums with a dozen people from Houston and only ever met up with 2.

I've been on the forums with a dozen people from Houston and only ever met up with 2. Kind of sad. I get that for some, a pipe is a solitary endeavor, but getting together as a group is 10 times better, and with the same people meeting up in Vegas, it is off the charts.

The Houston pipe club met on Friday at the only pipe shop in town. It's the Briar Shoppe in Rice Village and it's in the middle of the worst traffic in town.

Rich checked in on Chicago night.
Chicago Med, FD, PD.
Our TV automatically tunes to it per the wife's commands.
I think she has something for Kelly Severide.
