A most interesting article about decoding "whale-talk." Well worth the read...
(PS... I am in favor of stopping all hunting and killing of whales, porpoises, and dolphins. Not germane to the article, just sayin'...)

Agreed. I don't want to kill anything smarter than me and it's not like anyone depends on them to survive.

When I was in Iceland, eons ago, whale was he cheapest protein source available. I spent time at one the main whale stations where they are cut up for food. I would buy a kilo block of pure meat, take it back to the hostel and cook it up. Now, whale is an acquired taste. Not many can handle it. I marinated in milk and fried with onions. Barely edible. The fishy taste from their diet is unavoidable and it is like eating cheap cat food.
On the whole, they mammals should be left alone. Sadly their are many people on the planet who will continue to eat them.

If there was an open season on the California Sea Lion, I would not mind. They are lazy critters that have stolen many Salmon from me....while I plumb the depths to snag dinner, they lay near the surface to strip me of a well earned meal.

(Maybe I should've posted this in What Are You Reading.)

I’d be their with you I hate sea lions. One of the worst feelings in the words is feeling the line go slack and pulling in a salmon head.

I had that problem on San Francisco Bay wayy back when.

Who doesn't talk with whales? I mean come on man!! I mostly focused on not hitting them at sea in a small boat.

Agreed. I don't want to kill anything smarter than me and it's not like anyone depends on them to survive. That's what put me off eating octopus. I started seeing articles about them unscrewing jar lids, slipping out of their aquarium at night to get snacks from a neighboring aquarium and sneaking back home before daylight, shooting out lights with water jets ... I just can't feel easy eating something that smart.

Cuttlefish in general are amazing little beasties.
