I've been sleeping pretty well, but I am still 71. Wow, you are only a couple years younger than Beaver Cleaver...you are an old buzzard. CAREFUL THERE, KID.

My son uses one for his back. He had to lay a motorcycle down when someone pulled out in front of him. Ended up with several crushed vertebrae.

I trust my driving, not so much others, that is what keeps me from riding a bike.

I first had one used on me 25 years ago at the Therapy place after a knee scope. Loved it then and still use one today. When my back flares up, usually from yard work or lifting, the TENS unit goes right on for a treatment. I repeat about every 4 hours for a day and then I am good. I should mention I also have pills and cannabis, I don't take a pill very often anymore. The other is more for inflammation (or so I am told).

Based on what you say Ron, is there a surgery that can offer some relief? Going under the knife should always be the last resort, my brother and his wife both eventually took the surgical route and both are doing pretty well. He is wrenching on trucks and trailers, beforehand he was walking around like an old broke down man. The Doctors at the time gave me a 50/50 chance with surgery, 50% chance it works 50% chance it paralyzes me, needless to say I went with the pain over paralyzed. Based on what you say Ron, is there a surgery that can offer some relief? Going under the knife should always be the last resort, my brother and his wife both eventually took the surgical route and both are doing pretty well. He is wrenching on trucks and trailers, beforehand he was walking around like an old broke down man. No, collapsed discs and such. I've been to the top neurosurgeons and they all say that the cure is worse than the disease. I can still do a days work, which I wouldn't be able to do after the surgeries, which they won't do anyway. They offer meds that have nasty side effects so I refused. As long as I can tolerate it I will. If it gets too bad I'll take a motorcycle trip to the Grand Canyon. I understand Ron, one of the meds I take when I honestly have to really screws me up so I only take it if nothing else is working.
And thank you all for your recommendations, still thinking about it but, just might go for the TENs unit and pray it helps me.

I hope and pray that it gives you some measure of relief, Ron. That is a tough place to be in,

Iâve been using one of those Dr. Hoâs and it works great! I also picked up an inversion table from Amazon which I use on a regular basis. They both seem to work well.

I have an inversion table that never gets used, if Ron was closer, I would drop it off. It sounds like it would be great for relief from spinal compression.

If you get a TENS unit, I can't emphasize enough that you have to turn it up until it's very uncomfortable. The discomfort will go away after a few seconds, but whenever I made it comfortable to start it didn't do any good.

I use the metric system quite a bit. I find the std unit of measurement ,in values of 10 (or 10s as the cool kids say), to be easier to convert and measure. How about you?

The heart needs to be in very good shape to go upside down for long enough to help the spine. I till have it. In the barn and a little dusty if anyone wants to try it.

That works for my problems. Each person has to experiment with the settings. Not just the "volume" knob but Amplitude, Pulse Rate, Pulse Width, Mode. This is why the manufacturer recommended following the Therapists settings. I did not have a Therapist so I have had to experiment. 'It's ALIVE!"

And I watched that scene on TCM just as you posted it.

I've thought about those tables but, to tell ya the truth I'm a little afraid of them because if I invert myself and a sudden extreme pain hits me I might not be able to get myself upright again being that I'm the only one here.

Aren't those things designed so you can easily upright yourself? Like by pulling a pin or something? That seems like kind of a big liability issue if they aren't.

Charlie, of all people I thought you'd be a little more cynical about TV Commercials. I'm not from Missouri but, ya have to show me! I believe little of what is said, read, and advertised.

I was taken off longstanding, stable, non-problematic pain medication because illicit fentanyl deaths from non-medical use by others. TENS and SCS didn't work for me (and I'm thrilÄșed that they work for others), but I feel the need to chime in. Please avoid alcohol with Percocet and additional acetaminophen. It's very, very bad for the liver and increases risk of respiratory depression. Just so I am not a Debbie Downer: I highly encourage cannabis if it works and doesn't have unpleasant effects for the pain sufferer.*
*Edit: ...and you live in a compassionate state.

Certainly alcohol and acetaminophen is a dangerous combination for the Liver. I separate them by some hours. Ditto Percocet and alcohol. I used a CPAP with an O2 Concentrator during sleep. This helps but there is always the risk of breathing cessation. Sadly, not having a Medical Marijuana card, I cannot get formulations strong enough. I am limited to Edibles owing to lung damage. I prepared my own tincture in the past but it lacked THC. SO, the TENS is a good alternative. Seems to work for me. Yes, New Mexico, has shown to be remarkably compassionate and by both Dems and Repubs. I hope this continues but worry about the caliber of some of our current candidates. Not going into details here!

I'm glad you're aware of the dangers. A lot of folks don't know how horrible a drug acetaminophen is. And I'm glad you can get some relief from the TENS, too.
I won't get started on pain care and drug laws, but suffice to say it is lacking of intelligent guidance. I'm in the pain boat and want everyone to be as safe as possible.

Acetaminophen has never even cured a headache for me much less tackle the pain I have now. Sadly the TENS units worked in the beginning but, it does less and less for my pain as the days go on.

Yes, acetaminophen is basically useless in recent trials. Now hospitals are pushing IV Tylenol, which is shown to be roughly as effective as when given by mouth, that is, not at all. Of course, it's far greater in cost to the patient.
Sorry the TENS is giving you diminishing returns. They wanted to implant a battery pack in my belly connecting to electrodes in 8 or 10 or 12 spots next to my spinal cord. Having had no benefits with TENS, I said, no thank you.
