Grocery stores are not allowed to racially discriminate.

Maybe, but it's not much like other stores. The margin on groceries isn't that much.

I am not sure what stores are around you, Larry, but the apps for the local grocers here namely Albertson's and Safeway offer some great deals if you click on the digital coupons they are automatically discounted at the register....and that is a year-round benefit.
Fast food is the same way...I don't eat a lot of McDonald's but the convenience is nice when on the run. Recently in Gila Bend, I mad the order for an egg mcmuffin and large Iced tea for $1.65 out the door, the Iced tea is only $1 at regular price but the sandwich offer was not available in store.
I placed my mobile order in the parking lot, walked past 20 people placing orders, grabbed my meal instantly...back on the road.

I think that might be the reason...unless dropping the prices on some common goods might force people into the store to buy other things at higher margins. They sometimes get deals and promotions from the suppliers and use them accordingly. Our local store isn't big enough to do promotions, but they have their own meat and poultry supplies so that's the only thing that they can promote. People come from all over for the meat, The small chain store in Atlanta and Jefferson has big promotions. Plus 5% off for old folks. We saved $64 on our last trip. But that's every week, and they can't do much better for a "Black Friday".
