Hi, everyone! My name is Mike. I'm 57 years old, live in the Detroit area and have been smoking a pipe for 4 months. My brother-in-law got me hooked. I've seen how passionate he is about it and thought i'd give it a try. I learned a lot in 4 months. I enjoy the hell out of of it. I haven't smoked so much as a cigarette before this. I'm already up to 15 pipes, lol. Looking forward to learning a lot from this forum.

You must visit Paul's Pipe Shop in Flint. Arrowhead Pipe Club meets there at 7pm on the third Tuesday of the month. The next meeting is on Dec 21. If you come, get there before 7pm. The store closes at 7pm and we lock the door. It can take a while to notice someone knocking at the front door.
Although I am known as a pipe enabler here (and rightly so), I’m probably going to shock a few people here when I advise to slow down your pipe buying. 15 pipes in 4 months of pipe smoking is too many too fast before you really know what you do and don’t like in pipes, how to recognize a quality made pipe, what types of blends you’re in for the long haul with etc. In a year or two, you’re very likely to regret buying at least half of them. I’m assuming that’s 15 briars as cobs don’t count. 😀 BTW- You’ll quickly learn that if you ask 4 pipe smokers a question, you’re going to get at least 5 answers/opinions. 😉

adding greets/welcome from 50miles East of Buffalo, NY. Really old-timer, various forums/chats etc since 1st got a computer in '01. Not very techie-friendly but manage the basics. 53 total pipes, all with lucite stems, all shapes & sizes. Total lata-holic for last 16yrs. Paul's Pipe Shop, by the way, gave me anxiety the first time I walked in, so overwhelming with the selection. By the second visit I overcame it. I need to go back there for more therapy soon. |
