That looks great. I just use Avery round self-adhesive labels. Not perfect, but easy enough to download a picture of a tobacco tin online and make the things. Getting the image lined up exactly in the Avery template can be a chore sometime. (Note how the EMP label here is a bit off).

A nice job! We have a pipe club member that is fastidious about his cellar, all jars are labeled in such a manner, and the cellar is impressive....it should last him till 3035 AD.

I write on my small labels. My handwriting is small and usually sloppy. Hopefully in 10-15 years I'll still be able to decipher those hieroglyphs!
Nicely done, sir.

So I keep looking at your label and wondering how you did that. It is very tidy. Care to share your technique?

So I keep looking at your label and wondering how you did that. It is very tidy. Care to share your technique? I opened up Libre Writer (free Word type program). Made a 2.5" circle, and then laid it over a picture I inserted until it was lined up the way I wanted. Printed and cut out the circle. then used a glue stick on the lid and stuck the label to it. It is supposed to come off relatively easily if you want to use the jar for something else. Wasn't bad at all, I'll have some more to do this week.

That looks great, Pete. I just write the brand and blend name on the top of the Ball / Mason jar and the month/year. I often write the same on the side of the glass jar itself. When I buy pound bags of C&D blends, I can often get the sticker that has the description of the blend and label peeled cleanly off the bag, and then I stick those on my quart jars which I fit half a pound within a quart jar.The permanent marker can start to fade or rub away a bit within 4-6 year spans, if so, I just re-trace over my writing to give the labeling a refresh.

my hand writing is pretty atrocious, plus I keep seeing the nice labels so I thought I would give it a try.

They're great looking labels. I've considered coming up with a better labeling for my cellar which lists the entire blend components and descriptions in the event of no internet access, loss of tobaccoreviews.com, etc.
You gave me an idea that it'd also be pretty sweet to take photocopy bootlegs of say C&D/G.L. Pease tin art to print and slap on the jars.

i just google searched Sam's Flake, and looked at the images. Picked the one I liked, and had at.

You might check out this site, tater: cellarlabels.com/I just print labels with a Dymo thermal labeler and stick them on the side of the jar. I don't see the tops of the jars with the way mine are stored, so it makes it easier to see what's what with the labels on the side.

I don't even currently own a printer, haven't had one for some years. That $30+ of ink money is a pound of C&D tobacco Sharpie costs, I can manage. Priorities.

I didn't have one for several years, either. I need to print a document every now and then, but not so often I couldn't just do it at the office. And then I couldn't go to the office. So I picked up a little HP laser printer. B&W, but that's all I need, and they're actually pretty cheap these days. Wouldn't work for labels, though, obviously.

Lots nicer than the green Frog tape and Sharpie labels in my cellar.

It really looks the part. I haven't had much joy in cellaring. I think all my jarred tobacco has gone off somehow. Thankfully I only have about 8 jars...but still - they were mostly Germain's.

Letting good tobacco go bad is a sin. Knowingly letting it go bad is, for sure...not realising it has gone bad is just unfortunate. IMO

I just write on my lids with a sharpie. Seems like I'm always in them to get tobacco out though. Been leaving the tinned tobacco in their tins until it's time to refill a jar. I have a couple of 1.5 pound boxes of PS Luxury Navy Flake. They are still sealed in the plastic. Is it ok to leave them like that?

I asked SP this very question after buying some HH Pure Virginia packaged that way. They said it was perfectly fine aging in the sealed plastic.

I wouldn't chance it, I have had heavily bagged tobacco's dry out that were stored in plastic. I have a vaccum sealer, so I could go with Mylar which would be much better, but I don't think that there is anything better than a Mason jar. Pint or half pint jars are the way to go depending on your rate of smoking a particular blend.
