I haven't had anything. I keep waiting for the nasty weather they say is imminent, and it keeps not happening.

I've been puffing along on two big bowls of spill-tray leavings all day ,and just reflecting on the events of last year... then I had some blackeyeed peas & stewed tomatoes with dumplings, and began looking forward to a new year.

Haunted Bookshop from early '21 in the same Great Dane Spindle. The 2016 gave me hints of Raisin Bran and a fruity tin note.

I've just ripped a new nearly year old tin of Sam Gawith Commonwealth Mixture open to have my first go at this blend. While I'm not currently trying to necessarily open any new tins, I also wanted to yank on some Sam Gawith tins to see that they all had strong seals, have wanted to try this blend, and would overall rather jar SG tins than find them much later on all dried to a crisp. Upon opening Commonwealth Mixture, it can only be best described as a true and old traditional English of full strength. Commonwealth is only Virginia and Latakia tobacco and smells very smokey and rich. Once pulled from the tin, the cut is a very beautiful and near perfect thick ribbon almost bordering on pipe cut. The taste upon charring light proves that it's at least an approximate 50/50 mixture of Latakia and Virginia and again it is very rich and full in the English flavor for profile. Rich, creamy, smooth on the mouth. This strikes me as a true and proper English tobacco right from the start and it's no wonder, they've made this English mixture for 200 years. I'm smoking it in a no name made in London England bent billiard.

There's really something to be said here about this Commonwealth mixture only using 50/50 Virginia and Latakia as you'll never quite taste the Virginia at all and just that you'll note it's body and it's sweetness addition. While I can get quite tired of the numerous really unbalanced Balkan and haphazard cavendished and Oriental hodgepodge English modern mixtures, (here's looking at you modern Balkan Sobranie, you nasty impostor, you!) I'm finding this mixture so damn tasty I'm constantly snorking and I'm very nearly giddy with delight while I'm smoking this!
This is an absolute Latakia bomb in the strictest sense of the term and I'm absolutely loving it! You'd easily think you were smoking pure Latakia if you couldn't detect the sweetness and body being applied here by the Virginias. Excellent stuff!

Snorking in the sense of pipe smoking. I've not seen the term used in forums for years since Mister Moo passed, rest his soul. The effect is when you sip in your smoke, smack your lips together and blow all the smoke out through your nose while smacking your tongue on your palate to simultaneously taste through your nose and palate. Like when you're really trying to taste something and you're smacking your lips/mouth together to really reach for the flavors. I guess most now are just calling it "retrohaling."
