Imperfect equipment + imperfect briar + imperfect carver = this freehand. Plateau rim stained, sanded and light application of shellac. Shank end carved (there was no plateau there). Scavenged stem (want to buy something nicer for this pipe). Maiden voyage with Marlin Flake. Here goes nuthin'. very cool!

Sure will be many "sounds" from wifie starting 6:30pm, Bills at Chiefs. I might well have ear plugs in at times, fer sure not hearing aids!
18, cleard dusting of snow with broom earlier

Watching the Rams manhandle Brady’s Buc’s… they sure manhandled my Cardinals last week.

Thanks, Urb. Smokes pretty good so far. I don't think it's a clencher, for me anyway.

Silver For that being your first freehand, I'm being honest here it looks just as good as most Preben Holm, Ben Wade, or others that I've seen in the same Dublin shape size. No disrespect to Preben Holm, of course. Ben Wades, well... they're overvalued and have bad airways.
(The newest Ben Wade's that were after Preben's death. His earlier are really nice pipes.)

Thanks, Zach. I'm not gonna pretend to have that kind of talent. It turned out pretty good, I guess. It'll sit with my Ben Wade and Soren freehands, though.

I don't smoke it often, because its huge. When I do, its a two-hour commitment and smokes nicely. I bought it from another pipe smoker I knew back in '86 or '87. Don't know how long he owned it before selling it to me. It's a Ben Wade Regent.

Beautiful grain on that one, Pete! Sometimes you're pleasantly surprised by what a block of briar has inside. There's a thumb-sized spot on on other side where the grain disappears. There were a few good-sized sand pits, too. Not bad for $35 and some time at the work bench. If you meant the Ben Wade, yeah, its like that pretty much all the way around.

Partway through a bowl of 2011 GLP Union Square in my Savinelli De Luxe Milano 104 Billiard. Great looking pipe Silver. The time that I shaped a pre-drilled block into a Billiard garage me even more appreciation for what the professionals do and showed me just how little they make per hour for hard work.

I have a couple of early Preben Holm pipes that smoke great.
