What was the title of that film? I’d like to see it. The childhood story I heard was that he was set upon by footpads. He got one but his second pistol failed to go off and he was stabbed to death. He was set upon by footpads? I read a really good novel about the Lewis & Clark Expedition, many years ago. I think it was called I Should Be Extremely Happy In Your Company. Author's name was Hall. Brandon? Brian? Something like that. As I recall, it touches (sympathetically) on Lewis's bouts of melancholia. I should probably clarify by adding that it's not an adventure novel. It's focused on the characters.

I've been watching an old British TV program from the late '70s on BritBox called "All Creatures Great and Small" with my morning pipe and coffee here in the workshop. This is the original series based on the books by James Herriot whose real name is James Alfred Wight. The books, as well as the TV series, are about three country veterinarians who worked together in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales and their sometimes comical, sometimes sad experiences with the farmers there. Plenty of pipe smoking in the episodes and Peterson System Standards are well represented. I prefer the original series to the new one available on PBS.

We just went through the 3 seasons of Co**$*ck@r$,I mean Deadwood. And the closure movie. Amazing acting from all characters and the script was almost Shakespearian. Except for the excessive bad language. But I doubt that the language was an exaggeration of the way the men spoke in those mining towns. It was only slightly accurate historically, as Seth Bullock never met Wild Bill and Charlie Utter died in Peru in 1915. Then there's the not so minor deal that Bullock never killed anyone in his many decades as sheriff. But very entertaining and now we're wanting to visit Deadwood and see the other attractions in the general area.

My wife never got into it back then but I know she would now. 👍

Fun show. Great Cast of characters. I was fond of Graham Greene's former Tribal Police Chief. Even while being a bad guy he had that merry twinkle in his being. Like it was all a big joke. Katee Sackhoff was certainly enjoyable. Lou Diamond Phillps was his own tireless soire. The actor who played the current Chief of Tribal Police has a new series. "Dark Winds". He plays the same character more or less which is a good one. Navajo Nation rather than Cheyenne.

Robert Hardy defined that role, but Samuel West as Siegfried in the new series lacks the convincing ability to be the character and comes across as "Siegfried Lite".

Isn’t it interesting how some actors can nail a character such that you can hardly see anyone else in that role. Hardy did that for Siegfried, as O’Toole did it for Lawrence. Sherlock Holmes, on the other hand can be played by almost anyone— and has been. I remember that awful re-make of STAGECOACH with Alex Cord as the John Wayne character. Rubbish!

Rubbish! You ain't kidding there. That was a dog of a movie. Slim Pickens did a good job as "Curly", ditto Ann-Margret. Der Bingle made a great "Doc", I thought. However, Alex Cord was not the right choice for "The Kid".

Watched a couple of episodes of "The Devil's Hour" on Amazon Prime last night. Can't decide if I'll continue with it, or not. They've left so many loose ends, you really want to see how they tie them up. OTOH, there's not a single sympathetic character in it.

We have binged all of The Chosen. Can't say enough good about it. If you have the least interest you should check it out. If you have Roku or similar the Angel network is free.

A couple of characters get more sympathetic in the later episodes, and it has a wild and kind of fascinating ending. It has its problems, but on the whole I recommend it.

I have really enjoyed the JACK RYAN series so far. Just finished the first series. I find the protagonist way more believable and likable than 24’s Kiefer Sutherland who, IMO, came off as a snotty little prick. The action sequences are done very well and so far they haven’t turned me off with their gun-handling and general firearm savvy. Story was well-done with developed characters. I was intrigued with the overall sympathy for Muslims and their attempt to deepen the viewers’ understanding of their “cause.” Even the “bad guy” was a believable— even likable up to a point— human being. I look forward to the follow-ons.

Started watching the new season of The Last Kingdom on Netflix. 20 minutes in they have Aethelstan kill his half-brother Ælfweard. Then he kisses his male spiritual advisor. This wasn't in the books and nothing hints at it. Of course it was a thousand years ago. Still, I can't believe they had to shove that perverted crap in there.

Started watching Season 1 of "The Terror", based upon Dan Simmons excellent book. A fine cast of British actors many of whom learned their craft on Stage since I CAN UNDERSTAND WHAT THEY SPEAK. Seems to have been produced with an eye for detail.
